Melissa, when we were going through this,
Noah was quite often up at 5:30
So I layed him down at 9:30
let him sleep 10min---so maybe 9:40-9:50 and then his main nap was 2hrs later at lke 12pm. and he would sleep 2hrs.
bed was 6:30, asleep by 7pm

tried it today though after a 5:45am wake-up (but he is obviously too old for it) as it is now 12:45 and he does not want to sleep. and he only had 5min this morning. :-\
he was asleep early last night, ny 7pm, so thus the before 6am wake---he won't sleep more then 11hrs at night, which is frustrating.

We just go back from our mini vacation and she slept in both days  :o :o :o
Saturday she slept in until 6:20am (asleep by 7:45pm) and today she slept in until 6:40 (asleep by 6:45pm). I could not believe it.

She didn't sleep very long for the naps, due to the hotel being under major renovation (lots of banging and such  ::)) plus every day when we laid her down kids down the hall would start yelling and doors would be slamming (hotel) so it made it hard for her to actually stay asleep but she did really great overall.  The first night it did take 1.5 hours to get her to sleep for bed but she's not use to sleeping other places and definitely isn't use to sleeping in her play pen.  Thank God she didn't really cry, just needed me to be there with her.  Last night she was so tired that she actually fell asleep on me while I was giving her a snuggle before laying her down. That is the first time she has EVER, EVER, EVER fallen asleep with me holding her.  It was amazing.

Now that we are home we'll see how things go.

Talk to you all soon.

Need some more help/advice.

Since we started this crazy 2-1 nap switch Grace starting having Night Wakings....crying for milk and what not.  Well, since we got back from our trip she has been sleeping 'in' until after 6am.  We were so excited.  However, we have fixed our night waking problem and now she is back to waking up before 6am  :-\ and since then, the last two days (today and yesterday) she has short napped.  I thought we were past that but I guess not....I feel like we are going backwards.

Yesterday she only slept 30 minutes so I gave her a 2nd mini nap from 4-4:15 and she was asleep for the night by 7pm and up before 6am (not sure what time)...today I put her down at 10:45am and she was asleep by 11am with out a fuss and was up at 11:45 with no hope of going back to sleep.

What is going on?  I can't imagine she is already in need of more A time, but I don't know.
She is waking up happy, but of course after only having 30-45 minutes of sleep is exhausted later on.

Any thoughts?
Melissa

hi Melissa, it does sounf like she is a bit overtired?

I'm wondering if you can offer a 15min am nap 4hrs after waking and then have her down for another nap maybe 1.5-2hrs later (so around 12) and then she may sleep 1.5 hrs-2 hrs (no more then 2 though)

put her to bed WAY earlier for the night also if she does short nap.
My son usually does only 11hrs at night, but after a rough night, a 1hr nap (that ended at 1pm) he was in bed for 6, and slept 6:20-7am. :o

Update..

Last night we laid her down at 6:30 (as she took a 30 minute nap from 4-4:30).  She was ready to fall asleep and then had a nice big poop so she didn't fall asleep until 8pm  :-\

She had a night waking at 12:30am due to massive teething pain (I think her 2 year molars are coming in) but went down right away after we gave her some meds and a sip of water.  When we left she didn't cry out for us at all.

She 'slept in' until 6:15 today. She was clearly tired from going to bed so late and from the night waking that I thought I'd do the short am nap and a longer pm nap.

I tried for the 1 nap and she would not go to sleep. I tried for 30 minutes and she was just rolling around and talking.  I got her up to let her play a bit, gave her some food and laid her down.  She finally fell asleep, with no fuss, at 11:50 and woke up 30 minutes later.

I know she is OT but if she won't do the two nap thing what do I do?  I can't really put her down much earlier than 11am or she'll always be overtired because that will make bedtime 6pm or earlier...most likely earlier as she never sleeps 2 hours except on a very rare occasion and then she'll be up by 5am every day.

We just need to get her over this because we go on vacation in a week and then from there we move clear across the country to Washington State so I would love for her to have a good start to this crazy long trip and adventure we are able to go on.

I can't do 2 naps tomorrow because friends of ours are thowing us a good bye party.

Sorry for all the info, I am just not an expert at all on this crazy 2-1 nap switch.

OOOHHHHH...GOOD NEWS....I just checked on her (video monitor) and she actually went back to sleep after waking at the 30 minute mark....we'll see how long she'll go.  Praying for 2 hours but will take anyting over an hour at this point.
***Could she have just turned into one of those toddlers that needs to be super super tired in order to sleep longer?  I am not sure if that is the case with any kid but I thought I'd ask.

Melissa

so what time did you try for that am nap. I sort of think 9:30 am would be ideal.

if she had a late night, and a NW, and then a 6:15 start---that sounds like a little less then 10hrs.
when this happens to us, then nap is definately not more then 5hrs later.

so for today, probably 11-11:15 for a one nap may have been ideal. if she went back to sleep that is great!

also rememeber, that if they have a little less A time before, and they nap well, then they can usually add that little extra A time after.
so try for no more then 13hr day
even 5hrs before nap, 2hr nap, and then 5.5hrs--asleep by 6hrs mark

HTH, let me know how you go!

This morning we laid her down at 9:45 and I left her in there until about 10:30am.

If we didn't try for the 1 nap I would have had her asleep by 11am but because she laid still for 45 minutes she had a ton of energy to burn before her nap plus I had to feed her which is why she went down a little later than normal.

She did fall back to sleep and slept 1.25 hours and was out for the night by 6:30....it would have been much earlier but we had a massive lightning storm right as she was in the process of falling asleep, then a huge bolt hit near by and scared the you know what out of her.

We'll see how tonight and tomorrow goes.  It'll be a big day for all of use...family in town plus the bar-b-Que after her nap.

Thanks so much.

Thanks.  :)

We had another really early waking but I think it's just her body taking some time to readjust.

We'll how the next few days go.  Thanks again for all your help.  I hope you have a great weekend.

Good News.

I think it's been about 6 days now that she HAS NOT waken up before 6am!  She has been sleeping till just about 6:30 the past few days and hasn't had a short nap in about 6 days either!!!!!  She also hasn't had any night wakings for about 3 days now

Of course, now that all is going well, we move tomorrow....Ha!  Well, we go on a 1.5 week long vacation first which may throw everything out the window, but at least we are starting all the craziness out with a non-overtired baby.  ;D

After the move, I may be back on but until then....THANKS FOR EVERYTHING.

Of course then second I hit send, our stupid dryer starts making some horrendous noise and wakes her up. She did go back to sleep, which is a miracle in itself.  However, 10 minutes later she had a nice big poop!  Go figure.  ::)

Oh well, life happens  :)
I just thought it was funny that it happened right after I posted how well everything was/is going.  At least I know she didn't wake due to being overtired or anything like that.  :D

Have a great weekend ladies
