Is this normal??!!!!
« on: January 25, 2009, 09:55:33 am »
Have just started my 17 week old on dream feed, first go last night. He only had 2 oz then woke half hour later than he normally would (3am) and drank his usual 6-8oz.  This is my first baby and first time to dream feed so I desparate to know shall I persist? He's also just had his 16 week jabs and that's thrown his appetite right out of the window too!!  Argghhh!!

You need to try it for at least 3 nights before you decide if it will work for you guys or not. How does he sleep without a dreamfeed?

He started sleeping through (8pm-6ish am) when he was 14 weeks.  The day he turned 16 weeks he started waking between 2am-4am every night.  I cluster feed him at 5pm and 7pm but never dream fed him.  He is on a 3.5 hour routine.

There is a big growthspurt at 4 months, so it may be that this was causing your son to wake in the night from hunger. It might be that he will start sleeping through again once the growth spurt has passed.

I agree with Anna, could very well be a growth spurt.

With regards to the DF.  It can take up to a week before you notice any difference.  However with the DF it can go either way.  With some lo's it helps them sleep better, and with other lo's it can actually disrupt their sleep pattern and cause more night wakings.  But I would definitely suggest giving it at least a week to see how things go.

Keep us posted on how you get on.
