When you prepare their food, you could try sneaking as much milk into the ingredients as you can too.

Bryony, yep, both together.  Maple syrup poured over the French toast and dipped in tomato ketchup.  I know it sounds disgusting, but I love it, a real treat for lunch time.

Had a bad day yesterday.  Nothing majorly awful, just Alice's sleep not good (which led to a bad night).  Oh, I did try to cut her thumb off whilst cutting her nails.  Didn't quite manage it, so just got the top of it.  This did effect her eating all day though.  As she was more interested in the plaster, she barely ate anything.  Oh well, plaster off today and she had broccoli for lunch.  Seemed to like it.

Lu, I guess you just try and see what happens and if that doesn't work try something else.  By the time you get through trying different things, they'll be ready to start dropping their milk anyway.

My girls seem to be on a super advanced curve. Whenever I try something new with them, they seem to adapt readily. Like when we moved to a 4 hour EASY, they pulled through in three days. Or when I extended their A times from 2 hours to 3 hours, they pulled that one in about three days too.

So, what was it, Wednesday, that I wrote about changing their milk? Yesterday I got tough cookie with them (and myself  :-[ ) and was able to reduce their food and up their milk. They both drank their minimum 20oz and ate well too.

We went to Lebanese food yesterday, what a hit! Carrot salad (I should have asked how they got the carrots so soft, Lyn  ;) ), Tahini salad with tomatoes, cucumber, onion, and parsley (very messy but they loved it), of course pita with hummous, and green beans in a tomato sauce. Only thing they didn't like, and crazy mami offered it was the spicy rice. I only tried it on Sylvie, which is dumb b/c she's the more sensitvie one  ::) Mami. She popped her eyes open and cried for seven seconds, then went back to flirting with the table next to us.

Next time I must remember to bring bibs. They were a mess!

Sorry to hear about Alice's thumb. I've done that to each girl. My DH give me a hard time about it, but then I invite him to cut their nails. Needless to say that's my exclusive domain.  ::)

As long as you are aware that it sounds disgusting...   :P

That could be a funny thread.  What random things do you love that sounds disgusting to every one else!  :)

Good job I know most of the peopl ereally well there!

Meghan had her first real pasta today- alphabet shapes with pureed spinach, ricotta and garlic salt.  She was not impressed.  I put it in a bowl on her tray and she liked scooping it but I think she maybe ate two little pieces of pasta.

I put some bits of cheese and chicken on Grae's tray for dinner. She picked them up and put them in her mouth...Yay! :) But then she loved them so much that she grunted to me as if to say, "faster mommy, can't you help me out here?" So I resorted to some MLW. She just didn't have the patience. :(

Lyndsy,

I get that a lot. There can be a lot of whining at mealtime b/c the girls want to eat - STAT! At first they will feed themselves and play along but after a while they get frustrated. That's where the MLW comes in. It's OK with me.

Alissa - I like the idea for the gross stuff. Wasn't that the game Spit or Swallow? Remember that in the games section?

Lyn- M might not have been impressed, but I am. That sounds yummy!

Kimberley - nice to see you! I've wondered where you are! I try keeping extra bibs and clothes in the car but what with everything going on, I'm lucky if I can remember to get the girls out of the car. ::)

Hey everyone!
I am just getting started with BLW with my ds. He is 5 months one week old and very eager. I started initially because I thought he probably wouldn't eat anything and he would have a month of practice before he started eating. BUT- he eats ferociously! I have given him broccoli, carrots, pita bread, mashed banana on pita bread, red bell pepper, carrots, and green beans. All the veggies were steamed. He sucks on most of them and doesn't really get any food, except the broccoli and pita, which he gags on.
Just wondering- is it okay for him to be eating a little (the broccoli and pita with purees) or should i stick to the foods that he can just suck and practice on?
Thank you heaps in advance!

Hi Jaylabliss and welcome  :)

My understanding is that if they can pick it up and eat it - then it's fine!

Welcome Jaylabliss too.

I would agree with Bryony, if he's ready to eat then that's fine.  They don't really do what they're not ready for, is certainly what I'm finding.  It sounds like he's practising on some foods and eating others.  Which sounds great.  I didn't think of giving peppers, good idea.  Think I'll have to try that one.

Hope you enjoy the chat and ideas.  Hopefully you'll find us a friendly bunch.

Bryony, does Katie have constipation? Jake has trouble with it and i have started him on more fruit. I would think without fruit he would never go at all. :D

Welcome Jaylabliss! You should stick to foods that are unadulterated. No purees, only food in its "natural" state, and do not feed them, they do it themselves. That way baby does not eat so much that their little bellies cannot handle it. It is especially important to  do this when you start before 6 months. We started at 5 months and 3 weeks, Jake loved pancakes with sweet potato mixed in. Softer than pita bread. Have fun!

I am giving Jake purees at lunch because I cannot handle the mess of BLW twice a day. :-\ Anyone have suggestions for less messy foods? Pancakes, sweet potatoes and broccoli are the worst!! Muffins are not too bad because they are crumbly, but they make a mess if I soak them in milk or juice to make them moist, and I usually have to or he will choke.

welcome Jaylabliss!

Lovedtodeath, can your LO have rice rusks? They aren't too messy, also peas are good because if Grae drops them I can track them down before they mush right up.
