ingredients threatening supply?
« on: October 02, 2007, 13:34:36 pm »
On a different note...my friend recommended homeopathis drops for PPD. When I looked at the ingredients I see they have orange peel, melissen leaves, cinamon and passion flower.

Does this ring warnign bells with regards to supply dropping for anyone?

I haven't taken them yet.

If any one knows anything, please post.

Thank you
Michelle

If these drops are homeopathic then the quantities you are talking about are not even measurable as homeopathy is about the 'memory' of any ingredient and the ingredient itself is more dilute than you are imagine. So it's debatable whether you are actually ingesting the ingredients as such.

Assuming it's a herbal mixture and contains the ingredients in a standard form:

orange peel fine.
melissen/ lemon balm fine.
passion flower - some talk of sedative effects on v.young baby but shouldn't affect supply and I'd say fine.
cinnamon - someone on the board the other day talked about it in relation to being a supply reducer - first I'd heard of it. I could find no evidence for it at all. A couple of references to it being something that you shouldn't consume excess amounts of because some people can have a sensitivity to it. But no one is saying don't consume it anywhere and certainly no references to supply reduction.

But as I say if it's homeopathic you aren't really taking any quantities of the ingredients as such. It's like the ingredient is added to a swimming pool of water and one teaspoon of that goes in another swimming pool. I'm not dissing homeopathy - it seems to have tremendous value that I can only begin to understand but in this context you're fine.

BTW if you are feeling rough do you have some professional support out there? Have you chatted to your doctor and visited our PPD board? HUG.

Thanks Emma, you are a wealth of knowledge. I have looked at the PPD board but not yet posted. So much in my head. I am going to go and see the doctor this week and if I keep having freak outs like I have been having will have to start taking MEDS as I want to nip this in the bud and don't want to fall into a deep inescapable depression.

Thanks for your support. Might try the drops...a friend of mine swears by them although I have always been sceptical of homeopathy. But it is very big in Austria where I live.

Just some {{hugs}} too.  Definitely a good idea to nip this in the bud. And there's NO shame in taking meds for PPD - you need to be a healthy HAPPY mommy to raise your lo!!
