Poop at naps & nighttime... Any suggestions?
« on: October 03, 2007, 20:38:50 pm »
Hello!  My ds has this issue where he poops at almost every naptime & nighttime.  I have to change him before I go to bed or else he will get diaper rash.

We have dinner more than 2 hrs prior to bedtime and also have a fair amount of liquids.  It seems that no matter what/when I feed him, we still have poop at night.

Any suggestions?

TIA!
Lena

hi Lena

so... we're in the same boat :-X :P
nighttime poop is visiting us most of the nights now.
only Maja won't fall asleep having pooped- she goes to bed, poops, calls me, she thinks it's hilarious when I change her ::) and falls asleep in like 5 minutes after.

oh joy of parenting!

Hi Mona!

Ya, this boat sucks.  LOL  Aidan will sleep and doesn't seem to care much at all.  Glad that Maja is smart enough not to sleep in her own poo.  ::)  I'd almost rather he tell me after the fact so I could just get it over with.

Hopefully it'll change soon! I've been thinking of giving an enema for bedtime routine.  Okay... not really, but it would solve my problems.  LOL ;)

Lena, try prune juice in the morning so that the poop can be over & done with by nap time & hopefully by night time as well. What do you feed for dinner/desert. I try to stick with carb type meals for dinner & we don't do fruit either ...

No suggestions as we are in the same boat.  We seem to have some luck with making sure lunch is well before nap, but DS wakes up EVERY morning with a poopy diaper  :P

We sometimes run into this problem too.  I try offering most of Ben's fruit in the morning and at lunchtime.  Tonight, bedtime was delayed 15 minutes because of him needing to poop!  It also sometimes interferes with his nap...he'll wake up early from a nap to poop.   ::)

Layla- I could do the prune juice.  He does eat some type of fruit with every meal.  He doesn't always get a natural laxative type fruit either. We do a fair amount of everything.  He loves his fruit too.  I realize that might be part of the problem, but he also doesn't eat a lot of veggies.  I just bought some of that V-8 Fusion to try for the nutritional value he's missing there.

Do you think regular prunes would do the trick, or should I get the juice instead?  If so, then I'll have to get some tomorrow.

I am glad it's not just us in the poop boat. ;)  Thanks everyone for your ideas.  :D

Jasmine loves fruit as well but I generally save it for snack rather than desert (so mid morning snack & after nap snack). For desert I do yoghurt or home baked cookies (sugar-free ;)) or home made custard.

You could get regular prunes & soak them in water & use that juice or just regular prunes or buy prune juice. I wouldn't be giving too many..... if real prunes I think 2 or 3 would be more than enough (usually 3 is enough for me iykwim ;D). You could try diluting the ready made prune juice as well if he doesn't seem to like the taste.

You are definitely not the only one in the poop boat. Bella did the mid-nap & night poops for a while... then I got the potty out at around 15-16m (consistently) & she took really well to doing a poop in her potty once a day (don't know if it was because of the potty or just a coincidence :-\).

Lunch about 1hr before nap so far has helped Jasmine (so same as Sari's idea).
