night waking
« on: October 09, 2007, 11:59:58 am »
I have a six week old boy.  He is breastfed.  I made the early mistake of bringing him to bed with me and feeding him.  Also he really loves to suckle and was using me for the 1st 4 weeks.  I have stopped doing that, and am now suffering the consequences.  He is now in his own crib for naps, and bedtime.  I have been trying to do EASY, he sometimes will only stay awake for 10 mins after feeding then seems tired. When I put him down, he will sometimes sleep or sometimes will sleep for 5 mins, then wake up and do that for over and hour.  Never really settling.  I have a hard time distinguishing his cries, between tired and hungry.  Last night, I had just fed him, and put him down, and he was up 10 mins later. I fed him for 5 mins on one side and then over 25 mins on the other.  (I am switching to the one-sided method) His cries sounded like hunger, but he had just eaten.  He refuses to take a pacifier, he sucks for a minute then spits it out.  He seems to be expecting a breast.  MY schedule hasn't been the best as we just celebrated holidays here and it was really busy.  He cries alot, I am obviously missing the signals, and I can't bear to hear him crying much more. I have been trying this for over a week.  He is a cross between a textbook baby and touchy baby.  Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Krista,
Welcome to the boards.   :)

I am going to move your post over to the EASY forum as I think you are working on setting up a routine right now and they will be able to help loads with that.
