Implementing Activity under 3 months?
« on: October 11, 2007, 04:19:28 am »
Hi there!  I'm still sort of new here, and I've been looking for help about getting ACTIVITY going with my 2 month old.  He was 6 weeks premature, so he's somewhere around 2-4 weeks old, adjusted age.

We've been coping with some reflux issues, that are improving, it seems.

My problem is that b/c of the reflux, we need to do his diaper change BEFORE feeding, so in essence we are doing AESY, rather than EASY.  Mostly right after feeds, he is off to sleep.  Any one have any suggestions or links to previous posts that have help getting some Activity in before he goes off to sleep with a wee little one who refluxes?

Thanks!

hi,

at that (adjusted) age i think your main goal is to make sure he's not feeding to sleep - so make sure that there is a clear break between eating & sleeping (i.e. do not put down the bottle & pop him directly into bed).  as long as you are putting him to bed drowsy but not asleep you are likely fine.  the only issue i can think of is that you might run into problems putting him down flat right after he eats - cause of the reflux.  but i do not know enough about reflux to really be able to comment on that.

As PP said, the main thing is to avoid feeding to sleep... so you just want to try and keep him upright and awake, eg walking around the house, sittiing in a bouncy chair or whatever, for a little bit before he goes to sleep.

However, if you prop your changing mat onto a slope, could you change him afterwards?  That's what we did for Katie. Also had the advantage that when she did a wee mid-nappy change, it ran down the mat rather than all over her clothes...  :P :P

As you develop your wind-down routine, that will add some activity in - ours is just walking thru turning the lights out, pulling down the blinds, saying "night-night" to the sunshine - really, that's plenty of activity for one so young.
