Thanks guys!  Started wiwo today with the nap.  We talked about it alot beforehand, like we've done before each new step in this.  I put the cushions on the floor a few steps from his doorway where he can't see from his bed, and told him that today I would sleep there, and he would sleep in his crib, but that if he needed me, I would come in. We did a winddown, I put him in his crib and walked out. I had to wiwo 8 times.  Then he was quiet--talking and moving around but not crying.  He put himself to sleep 30 min after I put him down.  Oh joy!!! :)

Awwww, Jen, this is just so darn exciting!  You've been so patient and great through this process.  Way to go Chase!

Jen - just read this post for the first time.  You have done an amazing job, and Chase has too!  I can't believe how quickly the two of you are making progress.  What a great success story!

Well, don't congratulate us yet.  We still have a ways to go.  Tonight was a bit harder than today's nap.  I put him in the crib and left, and he really lost it.  I did wiwo13 times (yep--I counted), and then he was quiet for awhile...and then the stupid dog barked, and I wiwod 6 more times, and he went to sleep.  Time from into bed to falling asleep was 20 min.  I feel bad cause I feel like he's crying himself to sleep, but I know he just has to work through it.  I've also found that it's better if I only go in when he's really really upset, cause it's almost like I'm teasing him (All right!  Here comes Mommy!  That's more like it...wait!  She's leaving again.  AAAHHHHH!!!)  He just woke up crying again at 8:30.  I let him go for about 30 sec and was about to go in, when he got quiet again.  It could be a loooooong night!  Here's what sucks--at least when I was the prop and then especially when I was sleeping on the floor, I still got to rest when he woke in the night, even if I was awake.  Now, to do all this walk in walk out stuff, I gotta stay awake and alert! :P
Thanks everyone for the support!  I couldn't do it without you!!!!!! :-*

Jen--even though that 20 minutes probably felt like years, that really is not bad at all--especially with all of Chase's history.  You're doing great.   ;D

You may not be where you want to get, but you have come so far - so that is a huge success!  I started sleep training my lo at about 10 months but we had huge problem like you guys did - many props, nw, ew, etc...  I also used gw for a long time and it worked great.  Once I moved onto pd/wo it really moved things along.  I think 20 min is great.  It does get better, with a few blips along the way.

Being tired is hard - I know what you mean about getting less sleep at this point then when using the gw methods, but it is so worth it.  It really is a short term sleep loss for a huge quality sleep gain.

I also understand about the feeling like you are letting them cry.  My dd still has ew and I'm trying wi/wo right now to fix.  It is hard, but she gets so much more upset when I go into the room that the count down really gives her a chance to calm down.  She definitely calms down quicker with me in and out a bit less.  I too respond too quickly to her, after she just start crying.  I have to sit there now for a few seconds and see if the cry is really an I need you or not.  Sometimes I decided she does need me and by the time I get to the door she has stopped!

You are doing so well!

Hey Jen, you're doing awesome.  There are regressions, that's all part of learning.  Just stick with it as you are, and things will all come together.  It may be less sleep now for you and more work then using a prop - but in the end... you won't be leaning over the crib, awake, or sleeping on his floor - and that will be great for you, your DH, and Chase!

Keep at it, he is learning so fast!   ;D

Quick update:  Last 2 days, for naps, I just put him down and walk out, and he goes to sleep!!!! :o :o :o :o
At night, it's a little harder--been going in 11 or 12 times the last few nights, but then he goes to sleep in less than 30 minutes, and (dare I say it for fear of the jinx), has been sleeping all night.

I am very happy! ;D

Cough is gone, for the moment ::)
Wanted to update this, since it's been almost a month since we started.  Except for maybe 2 or 3 nights (Halloween, DL savings night), ds is sleeping through the night!!!  8ish till 6ish.  Straight!!!  Woo-hoo!!!  And, when I put him to bed, I just put him in, kiss, zip up the crib tent, and walk out!  He always goes to sleep on his own for naps, and about half the time needs a few wiwos at night (though none the past 2 nights!), but WOW what a difference!!
Thanks everyone for all the support!
