Hi Ladies,

I'm not sure if I'm going mad but I'm convinced that I read somewhere, not sure if BW or Annabel Karmel's book or somewhere else a suggestion to put either marmite/vegemite (again can't remember which - brain is obviously dying slowly but surely).

Has anyone heard of this or even better, offered it.  DD is almost 8 months.

Thanks

Molly

There are a few recipes around for marmite/ vegemite 'rusks'. Sam has these from around 9 months I think. You put a blob of marmite in some hot water and let it melt in. Then brush the water on the bread and bake it until it toasts.
But the marmite has to be very dilute in the water - it's really just a flavour.

Marmite (and I presume vegemite) have a high sodium content so I'd be wary of giving any more than this under 12 months.

One of my books: "Finger food for babies and toddlers" by Jennie Maizels mentions in several places marmite is not suitable for under ones due to high sodium (potential kidney damage etc)

Emma,

Thanks very much.  Thats really useful.  Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole myself but desperately trying not to pass on any of my 'pickyness'.

Molly

PS Would you recommend that book.  A book on finger foods sounds really interesting.  Hope you and bump are doing well.  Gosh the time is flying by.  Also haven't been on the bf board in quite a while, but just to let you know am still bfeeding at almost 8 months thanks to you.  She is still bottom of the chart but gaining at a consistent slow rate and eats a fair amount of solids for such a small baby!
