Help Help. 5 month old fighting day sleep now
« on: October 25, 2007, 09:09:42 am »
I was doing very well. I was reading cues, she was going to sleep for naps fairly easily 90% of the time. Only 45 min, but still...that had never really been any different.

THEN she started sleeping through the night and everything changed. NOW she is soooo difficult to get down for naps. I have extended awake time to about 2 1/2 hours give or take 15 min. She is so tired, but screams everytime I put her in her cot. She will go to sleep if I let her suck my finger sometimes, she did have a dummy till about 5 weeks ago, and didn't miss it when I took it away (she kept waking for it) but the last two weeks she seems to want to suck more.

She is teething (two bottom ones through already) and has a cold.

Routine looks like this:

6.30 E
A usually play, baby rice, sometimes a walk outside
8.30 wind down and S by about 9 (is now sleeping for about 11/2 hours)

10.30 E
1.00-1.30 ish S till 2.00-2.30 (maybe only 45 min here)

2.30 E

5.00 S (sometimes - usually fights this one hard and won't go down any earlier!)
5.45 eat solids
6.15 bath and last feed
7.15 S
10.30 DF usually still sleeping

I know there are alot of positives, but I don't know why she now won't go down for naps easily. What am I doing wrong?!?!?

She is breast fed for morning and evening and DF, formula fed for 10.30 and 2,30 as I return to work on Monday and I have gradually introduced them for when I'm not there

Thanks Kerry,

it's interesting to see that your lo only had two small naps....was she cranky at any time of the day?
She was much easier to get to sleep today....no need for finger sucking this morning....wondering whether some of the problem is her cold and mucus in her nose etc, she seems better with her cold today and she slept through without any disturbance last night.

I think you're right about the effect of sleeping through on naps....I guess I'll just have to see if she adjusts herself.....

Love the pic of Kacey enjoying her food!!
