Thanks for the advice Sophie - I do think that the melt downs are probably due to the fact that the tele is on, and things are happening, and of course Thomas is around too - he is in nursery during the day.  Will definitely give it a try this evening and see how things go.  Thanks  :-*

We put Henry in his cot for all naps and daytime sleep. However we brought him down into the sittingroom for his 10pm - ish feed and that resulted in him setting his clock 10-10 .   :o   :o  It took about a week from 8-10 weeks to reset it to 7-7.

Hey Paula!
You are one lucky chickadee to have so much night sleep!!!!  I too envy you!!  I remember when dd was teeniny that whenever she went through a growth spurt it took at least 2 or 3 days for her daytime tummy to be able to handle the new required amount of formula, and so we were up more at night for a few nights until I could get her to take more during the day.  Even doing EAES or some form of multiple feedings in one EASY cycle didn't work real great - too sleepy.  She is precious and I hope you continue to get some great rest!

Thanks Vadensmummy  :-*

Di I tried to put her upstairs this evening, but before we knew it it was time for a feeding again.  She is clusterfeeding most of the evening and does not sleep much before 10pm.  If we stick to this for a while, do you think it will cause problems in the long run?

She is so small, Paula, I think all she knows now is how to drink, sleep and poop :)

I would say go with what works for you now. You are obviously doing something right, :) so play it by ear. Every baby is different. Henry was on a 4 hour EASY the first 6 weeks, as he slept 3 hours for evey hour awake day and night. Day initially better than night, which is when i *found* BW properly. :)

What I would say is in a few weeks' time A will 'wake' up. I just assumed Henry would prolong his A time naturally and at the right time, ie day time. Nope. He did it between 6-11pm for a week and I was stumped. This was also when his reflux flared. A clever mommy in my BC suggested we did another cycle of EASY, I think she twigged first that he saw the 6-10/11pm stretch as part of his 'day' This was after he initially for the first few weeks slept the best after his bath.

I would probably not for the time being worry too much about how your nights are going now. If I were you though, when Abigail got a bit older, say 6-8 weeks old, I would definitely aim to have her in her cot in the dark from after the bath time routine and for the 10-11pm feed, feed her in the dark and quiet. We did that for a week and since then Henry has put himself to sleep at night, independantly every night. Yes you have the teething and sick episodes, but they are rare and even then, after soothing him, I still put him to bed awake. As they say night sleep gets established btw 2.5-3 moths of age, that is what I personally would aim towards.

However, you have to do what works for you and A and the rest of your family. :) I think if you start too young, you 'prolong' the agony, as I think, IMHO, they are just too young to 'understand'.

Hope that made sense! You are lucky and I think you are such a happy go lucky mom, she can't help but be peaceful! Enjoy her. :)

xx

Thanks for your message Di, it makes perfect sense  :-*

I think by the time Thomas was about 6-8 weeks he was sleeping 7-7, so will probably aim for that with Abigail.

I think she does understand the concept between night and day, as she is constantly wanting to feed at night.  Last night she clusterfed every 2 hours taking 3oz a time, and then her 8pm feed she took just on an hour to finish, as she wanted more and ended up having 5oz.  After winding her, changing her etc, she went down at 10pm and slept through until 7am where she had her first feed.
