Dropping the "Dream Pump"
« on: October 31, 2007, 00:56:45 am »
My LO will be 7mnths on Sunday and we are slowly trying to wean the DF. I have pumped at that feed since she was 4 weeks old (religiously I might add), and now I want to stop. I just started back to work and pump 6-7oz per pumping session during the day, as well as pumping the side she doesn't take first thing in the AM (5-6oz), so I really don't need to keep that one up. We want the DF to be done in 2 weeks. She is taking 5oz EBM from DH right now, I've been trying to get her to take 7oz during her daytime bottles since Saturday and we're not quite there yet, but I'm sure it will come along.....Anyway ;D

I am getting between 4-6oz at the "dream pump". How do I slowly get rid of it without being full to the brim in the AM? Do I decrease the time spent pumping? And over how long of a period should I do it?

Thanks
Lyndsy

wow Lyndsy - you are quite the pumper!  I get maybe 3 oz at my dream pump, and as you know, we've just weaned from the df.  I had planned on pumping at night to keep some extra on hand, and to mix with cereal, but I really hate pumping, so I've not be so good about it, and oddly enough, I haven't had any problems being too full in the am.  I'd say you could slowly decrease the pumping time - how long do you go now?  I used to pump for 15 min, but I'd say now it's no more than 5 when I do pump.  You could decrease 5 min every couple of days (to coincide with the weaning back on the df) and then, in a perfect world, you end your pumping when you end the df and everybody's happy  ;) ;)  ok, so it probably won't work like that.
