WWYD? Wonky Sleep for 26.5 Month DD
« on: November 01, 2007, 13:13:28 pm »
Hi everyone - long time no "talk". Hope everyone is well.

DD (26.5 months) has been sleeping weird this week. We had a crazy busy weekend so that started things off as she only napped about 1 hour in car on Saturday but had a normal nap Sunday and again Monday. On Tuesday she woke at 7:05 and cried for about 3 seconds before falling back to sleep until 8:45 (she fell asleep around 8:15/8:20 the night before). I put her in for her nap after lunch around 1:30 and she played in there unitl 3 but never slept - although she did finally call for me at almost 3 saying "woke up, open eyes".

She did suprisingly well without her nap other than a loss of balance (resulting in a fall and minor head bump around 5:30pm) and fell asleep around her normal 8:20 (although we tried to get her in at 7:45). Wednesday she slept until 7:20 and we had a Halloween brunch party yesterday - she slept in the car on the way home for 45 minutes around 1:25 or so. Last night fell asleep again around 8:20 - in a great mood but very "gooned up" and silly hyper.

This morning she woke around 6:50, played in her crib for a while and fell back asleep at about 7:30. It's now 9:20 and she's still sleeping!!! She normally needs at least 5 hours before her nap so I'm not sure what to do today. Do I even bother putting her in her crib and seeing if she'll even play in there for an hour? Or seeing as that would be so late in the day should I just take her for a long stroller nap later and see if she'll just relax more maybe take a quick catnap?

At least I'm getting a lot done this morning although I'll miss my midday break! TIA.

Update - right after I wrote the above, I was getting the blender out from the cabinet and caused a bunch of other pots/pans to crash. The resulting noise seems to have awoken DD at 9:25. So I guess I could put her in her crib at 2:30 and see what happens and let her sleep 45 minutes tops if she sleeps or play in there an hour. Or take her in stroller around 2 alternatively? Just not sure!

Karen
I'd put her in the crib and see what happens. If she doesn't fall asleep then bump the bedtime up.
Usually if Sasha has a long lie-in then i miss her nap and put her to bed early.
I think this an age thing as Sasha has being doing weird thing with her sleep too-like no nap, short nap etc ::).just when i thought i had this nap business sorted.
HTH

Thanks Andrea! Sasha looks SOOO cute in that picture - I must update my avatar soon too.

OK so you think put her in crib around 2:15 (late lunch at 2) and get her out by 3:30 (sooner if upset of course) whether awake or sleeping?

Well put her in at about 2:15 and it's 3pm now and she's still singing the mickey mouse clubhouse song and doing ABCs and counting. So I think if she's still doing the same at 3:15 I'll go get her up (or maybe wait until 3:30) and have a relatively relaxing afternoon (I need to go bra shopping anyway) and get her to bed at 8 instead of her usual 8:15/8:30. I can try earlier but she tends to put up a fight then.

Nope - I let her play in there until 3:30 - she progressed from singing and counting to kicking her birds crib toy and making wild animal calls... Tried to go shopping this afternoon but had no luck - will have to try again tomorrow. Shooting for 8pm bedtime (30 minutes from now) so fingers crossed...

She was totally hyper/goony but went to sleep really well and was asleep just after 8. She woke up around 7:20 or 7:30. She might have dozed back off if I'd let her but I got her up at 8:05 because we had her gym class at 9. She was really tired for the class though. Put her in for her nap at 12 and she was asleep at about 12:30 and I woke her at 2:15. Tomorrow will be a car nap only (we will be out and about meeting with contractor and lookign at stuff for new house) so we'll see!
