Consistantly ill 18mo now still a bad sleeper
« on: November 18, 2007, 01:04:50 am »
For the past 10 months or more my daughter has been in and out of ear infections, intestinal issues, or allergy issues.  So between these things, and causing OT, or even teething just being more horrendous because of illness or OT from illness, she has been a lousy sleeper ever since.

We started off with reflux as an infant, then ear infections and the others 10 months ago.  Because of this, we'd always go into her room at night when she woke and cried because of diarrhea, temperature, or any other symptoms from her current illness.  So now, we've had maybe 2 nights with no NW in the past several weeks.   This is the norm.  When over the illness, we use to be able to let her cry for a few minutes and then she'd get over it and not get up again.  But now she gets hysterical.  And then again, she often will have diarrhea the next day anyway, so consistency isn't much of a reality.

We've done the Dr. thing and it's simply a sensitive stomach with the diarrhea, we have to watch what she eats (although the babysitters don't and this is when we have the problems)  allergy drainage = ear infection.

So outside of medical advice.  Does anybody have any idea what could help with NW?

We have a hard time knowing what  is habit and what is actual illness.

Oh, I forgot to mention that she is up for an average of 2 hrs, but has been up as much as 4 in the middle of the night!!!!

sending some hugs.dd2 didnt sleep through until 19months.she too has issues with allergies etc.
i just plod on tbh and she still wakes occastionally.
a huge amount of her wakenings are linked to her food though.could you do a packed lunch of safe foods for the babysitter?or draw up a list of foods that are off the menu totally?
children are precious,cherish the moments....

Hugs Andrea, I had wondered where you got to.

TBH we have had the ear infections although we have only had 1 recent one.  Nowhere near the amount of illness you have been through and Zara doesn't sleep through most of the time either, so I am not much help. :-*

Well, at least I know I'm not alone!

The babysitter comes to our house, and buys other food (she's our 30-something niece), I have lists, they are just ignored most of the time.  It's a complicated situation (in-laws), but hubby said he'd have another talk with her , just more serious and tell her to do it ourway, or to find another job, basically.

Rina, since I"ve been back to work, and expecting, I just rarely have the energy to sit and type or read.

...but on the bright side, today she pooped on the potty.  That made my day.  Once a week she'll pee or poop on the potty (only when we're here, again the babysitter doesn't help much)

Hugs to you!  It doesn't sound like you are having a lot of fun there.

Just wondering if you have tried a Chiropractor who specializes in children for the ear infections?  My co-worker's DS had chronic ear infections.  He would be off one set of antibiotics and onto the next only a short time later.  He had them ALL the time it seemed.  Anyway, they went to a Chiropractor who works on children and had great success!  I would definitely recommend it.

My kids have been adjusted since birth and DD has only had 1 ear infection (a month ago, so at 4.5yo) and DS has not had one.

Good luck!

Wow!  That is great!  Worth looking into.

We live in the middle of nowhere, so I'll look and see what we have around.  I never would've thought to go the chiropractic route!

Thanks!

With lo#2 on the way, I'm not looking forward to 2 criers around at night time. I'm already getting very little sleep, I can't imagine it being much worse, but it will be if we don't get this fixed.
