Unsure about feeding schedule for 8 week old
« on: November 21, 2007, 22:11:20 pm »
My 8 week old is on EASY, but seems much better on a 3 1/2- 4 hour schedule rather than the 3 hour schedule.  She was 8 lbs 9 oz at birth and now weighs just over 13 pounds.  She has slept better at night since i started to stretch the time between feeds she started to sleep from 11pm to 5 am, and has slept from 11pm to 7 am the past 3 nights.  This is obviously great but makes it difficult in the evenings because she it means a long awake time before her 6:30/7 pm feed.  She is very hard to get to sleep at night (compared to the daytime when she goes very easily). I don't think this is because of accidental parenting - she falls asleep with shh/pat easily during the day. I realize it may be because of the long awake time causeing her to be overtired, but 'm but sure.

This is all complicated by the fact that she has reflux and has been colicky in the evenings.  When we put her down in the evening, we are often able to get her to sleep for 5 - 10 minutes, but then startles awake or spits up and wakes up. COuld the difficulty putting her to bed at night just be because of the colic??

I have 3 questions:

Is the 3 1/2 - 4 hour schedule normal give her size?
Any suggestions regarding the long awake time before bedtime?
Any suggestions regarding the colic and difficulty getting her to sleep at night?

I think the 3.5-4hr EASY is fine if she continues to gain weight, have enough wet nappies and if she doesn't start waking up extra in the night.  My ds (now 13wks) was pretty much doing that.

Not too much help for the other questions as I have the same problem at the moment (too overtired by bedtime).  But eg. yesterday worked out pretty well (in theory!) - he fed at 7.30am, 11.30am, 3.30pm then 6.30pm.  That last nap he went down at about 4.50pm and I then woke him at 5.45pm (for a 6.45pm bedtime) but perhaps I should have left him to 6pm (since he still took ages to settle at bedtime and was yawning the whole time up).
