Picky eater vs NOT eating
« on: November 26, 2007, 13:42:44 pm »
Hello,

I am sure that this has been posted before, but I couldn't seem to find it.
My lo will be 2 next month and has always from day 1 been a fantastic eater. Eating everything and anything. My friends would be so shocked at how well and how much she would eat even at daycare she would eat so well.
Well over the last week or so she has stopped eating all together including daycare.
Even if I offered her a cookie or cake or something that is yummy she just doesn't want to eat at all. She will ignore me when I ask her if she is hungry or if she wants to eat.
We put food in front of her and she just stares at it not even wanting to try which makes me think that she is not hungry.

Is this normal for toddlers to just not want to eat?
For example yesterday for the entire day she had a few blueberries and 8oz of milk. That's it. Its just so shocking to me because of how well she use to eat and now she eats next to nothing.

it is normal for them to go through periods of not eating, but I would look into the teething and maybe watch to see if she's maybe coming down with something. DD usually does that when she's sick.

Thanks, I don't think that she is teething, but that doesn't necessarily mean she is not.
At what point do I speak with the DR about this. I just don't want to go rushing in there if this is totally normal, but on the other hand i don't want this to go on very long either

Actually she has not been drinking a lot at all, she also doesnt want to drink. I have water for her at all times and usually she gets 8oz milk in morning and then again in the afternoon, but she hasn't really wanted it lately. She will have some, but not all.
I will evualate over the next couple of days and see what happens

DD came down with a fever on Monday night of 39.3. I was able to bring it down with meds, however once the 6 hour mark is over her fever spikes again. She is still battling with it now. She is still not eating anything. I brought her to the Dr yesterday and all she said was she may have a virus, but her throat and ears were fine.
I am wondering if this is her second year molars coming in. She has been chewing her fingers and yesterday told me her mouth hurt. She won't let me look in her mouth so i am not sure.

She is totally normal once she has motrin, but completely miserable when it wears off.

Anyone gone through the second year molars yet? Does this sound familiar?

I was told that their temperature rises when they are teething but not a fever which would indicate illness.
It could be her throat does hurt maybe although the Dr checked and also her molars are coming through at the same time.
