Erika is almost 5wks old. At first she did great naps, but the last 2wks it's gotten worse...I cannot get her to go down awake....tried all diff awake times, she will lay ther but eventually starts crying....you pick her up and her eyes start to close (she's tired!) wait til almost asleep, put her down, she's awake 3-10min later, and the cycle repeats itself, sometimes for an entire nap length...sometimes she will just cry. I swaddle her, doesn't help. at BEST, she will sleep 30min after i've held her to sleep or almost asleep.
if we go in the car or stroller she sleeps great. this morning I finally put her in sling so she could rest for an hour til her feed time. but even then, she is sometimes very restless if I stop moving about and sit down for too long.
i have  a very frustrated 3yr old who needs mommy time but I am constantly holding Erika or trying to get her to sleep.
I don't have time to do pat/shhh right now, i tried and i was a wreck and so was dd..so I plan to do more sleep training when she's older (did pu/pd with dd at 4mo's and it was amazing-hard work...but it WORKED),
but for now...HOW can i get Erika to sleep longer? I feel like a failure..I just can't figure her out.

her routine is never the same twice during the day it seems.
she is on 3-3.5hr easy...but with the pathetic naps it's turning into ESAESAES:(:(
she goes to bed between 7-8, usually wakes between 12-1am and again between 3-4am and again around 6isham:(
i'll post the last few days: ( I write everything down)..

are you doing shh/pat and staying with her until she is past the jolt?  I'll bet this is what is waking her.  she hasn't learned to get through them yet.  shh/pat doesn't mean you are seriously sleep training remember.  it is a calming technique to help even new borns get to sleep.

Do you think it is the Shhing or the Patting she doesn't like and upsets her?

I stopped doing it....so that can't be it. I just swaddle her and hold her and gently pat her back til sleepy then put her down...:)..

my lo is almost 12 weeks old and he's sounds the same like yours.  he sleeps long in the stroller or in the car and being held but definitely wakes up after a little bit from being put down.  so i'm interested to see what others are saying how they can help because i think we need it.

how long are you staying with her when you put her down?  I really think it is the jolts waking her and if you are ther with her you can help her through them.
