Late nap time?
« on: November 29, 2007, 16:13:58 pm »
My dd is on a good 4 hour routine.  It took a couple weeks for her to get back on track after a trip we made to Texas and the time change, but for the past 6 days she's been napping well and sleeping great at night again.  The only thing that's different is that now she likes to take her afternoon nap at 3 after she eats than at 1.  Is that okay?  I try to put her down at 1, but yesterday she cried for the full two hours (I even fed her early thinking maybe she was hungry), but then finally fell asleep at 3:30--slept till 5.  Here's the schedule as it looks:

7am wake and BF
7:30am sweet potatoes and cereal
8:45/9:00 nap (usually 1 1/2 to 2 hours)
11:00am BF
1:00pm (I try for a nap but she won't)
3:00pm BF
3:30 nap (usually 1 1/2-2 hours)
7:00pm bedtime
10:30 df

So she's still getting about 4 hours of daytime sleep, but she's skipping the catnap and is staying up during the afternoon for 4 hours which feels long to me.  Should I just embrace it or keep fighting with her to sleep at 1?

Is she happy when she is awake (I guess when you are not "trying" to get her to sleep) if so I would follow her.  If she looks like she would take a nap at 1 give it a shot, but if she is hapy without go with it.  Just my thoughts

She is overall happy, but I can tell she's still tired.  She whines alot during the 1-3:00 hour which tells me she's sleepy, but no matter what I do, she won't fall asleep.  Yesterday I put her down at 1 and she woke up again 20 minutes later.  Her morning nap was only 1 hour though yesterday morning, so maybe she was overtired.  Anyway, she wouldn't sleep again, but then I fed her at 2:15 or so because I thought she might be hungry and then she went down for a 1-1/2 hour nap and then was happy up until 6:45, when she went to bed.  I guess I should just embrace it.

I used to have a nap problem with dd but I worked with her and she has seemed to work it out on her own.  They have stages, I would follow her lead.\
Good luck
