Average time night feeding ends...
« on: November 29, 2007, 17:49:26 pm »
What is the average time that night feeding ends?  My first DS was already on solids by 5 months and was sleeping 12 hours at 4 months.  My second DS is still waking one time a night for a feed and has no interest in solids (he's 20 weeks), so I'm not pushing the cereal at this point.

The problem with the night waking is that he usually eats 8 oz every four hours during the day and goes to bed around 7-7:30pm.  He wakes around 5am for a feed, but since it's so close to wake time, I just feed him 4oz.  But when he wakes around 7 or 7:30am, he's not that hungry and only takes about 4oz and then wants to eat earlier than 4 hours.  UGH...frustrating.

Tysonbing - it varies enormously!  for those doing a DF, it's common to drop this at around 7 months so most babies are having at least one night feed until then. Some still need a night feed until 1 year or so.  They are all so different!

Could you try giving him even less at 5am?

I can't remember, are you doing a DF?

No, I only tried the DF a couple of days and he woke up more when we did.   :(  Do you think I should try again?

No, if it didn't work I would leave it at this stage... so that 5am feed is your one night feed.

Yeah, anywhere from 4:30am till 5:30am.  So it's so close to wake time that it interferes with the morning feed and throws the day off sometimes.

Have you tried cluster feeding in the evening, to see if this helps tank your lo up a bit more?

Yeah, I tried that for several days and it didn't make a difference.   :-\

I would personally offer a smaller feed at 5am, then, so that your lo is not too full when you are ready to start the day.

I agree with Paula - it's easier if you are bottle feeding as you can just put less in the botte. When we went through this with BF I used to time the feed and try and keep it to less than 5 mins...
