Should you always have 12 hours?
« on: December 02, 2007, 12:20:21 pm »
My baby has been sleeping from about 7pm till 6am straight (YAY!) the past few days.  My question is, I know that the goal is to have 12 hours of night sleep, but how do you do that?  He wakes at 6, talks for a while and I try to leave him in the crib, but by 6:45 or so he is crying to eat.  I would love to do 7-7, but I'll take what I can get!!

How do you deal with it?  I could try earlier bed, but the past two nights, his catnap has been from 4:45-5:30, so earlier just doesn't make much sense.

Thanks!

Can you remind us how old he is?

But yes that sounds fine - typical amount of night time sleep once they are sleepign through the night is 11 hours. Most of us factor in 11.5 or 12 hours in case of NWs, then get them up a bit earlier if they wake up...  eg Katie goes to bed at 7:30pm and we get up at 7am. But usually she wakes up around 6:30am and talks to herself until I go and feed her at 7am.

Great news on the nights!!

So what's that - nearly 5 months?  But yes 11 hrs sounds fine - if he wakes up happy (at least initially!) then that sounds fine - not many need a whole 12 hrs!
