and to Part 2 here

The last post on Part 2 was from Jaylabliss asking whether anyone had offered ther los pitted and unsulphured dates, so if anyone has any thoughts on this, respond here :)

As ever I am very proud of all of your and your los for persevering with this approach and having (on the whole) a positive experience with it! :-*

I haven't given Meghan dates yet.  I do give them to my big kids, but the baby hasn't responded well to dried fruit so I was worried that it would cause her diarrhea.  How is your lo doing with them?

We haven't given dried fruits either.

Just as a point of interest.  I went to the Health Visitor yesterday and my normal HV wasn't there and the one I saw isn't into BLW.  She was asking me whether I gave her milk first or solids, I told her milk and she suggested that I could move to solids first in the morning.  I just agreed with her and thought I would talk to my HV about it when she's back.  What do you all think about that?

Pauline - I kind of vary it!!  In the morning, they have a breastfeed on first waking up followed by breakfast half an hour to an hour later.  They have a bottle mid-morning (normally about 10:30) and lunch at 12-12:30.  Then another bottle before their nap at about 2, tea at 4:30-5 and another bottle again before bed at 7pm (it was a breastfeed until yesterday!!  Boo-hoo!  But had to let it go.)  So the milk feeds have kind of become like snacks between meals IYKWIM except at either end of the day.

We haven't done dates yet, but my boys love raisins!  I was so worried about them choking but they didn't even gag on them.  Ella didn't have raisins till well past her 1st birthday but then she hadn't had nearly as much 'real' eating practice as her brothers have had!

Pauline...I would stick with milk first until at least 9 months (Alison....your comment here).  :P

Haven't tried raisins or dates yet due to choking hazard, but I may try it now....

Thank you ladies.  I was thinking I wouldn't just yet, I know that we're advised to wait until about a year.  I kind of feel like I've no life though.  Her routine is feeding, nappy, feeding again.  I don't have enough time in her routine to go out for any more than about half an hour at the most.  If I wanted to go for longer than that, e.g. some essential toiletries and the next age up clothes etc, I would either need to skip a solid feed or she eats it in the pram.  I don't really want to do that too often.  How do others manage the tight schedule and have lives.  I can't wait to go to 3 milk feeds per day and feel like I've got some time again.  She's not ready for that yet though.  Sorry didn't mean to write that, but I do get a bit fed up not getting out as much as we used to before solids.

Welcome Agata.  I wasn't too sure which links you were referring to.  Hope you get a lot out of this thread and we can encourage you to go down this route of weaning.

Unfortuately Pauline....you have to let her have whatever is less messy in the stroller and get on with it! Have you tried baby mum mums? That's what I give Grae if we are out and about during her solid feed. I make up for it at the next solid feed by giving her more veg and protein.

Well i gave Jude one date and some pear slices for breakfast this morning and he LOVED it. Its been like 6 hours and he hasn't had any sort of bad reaction, so I think he'll be fine, But they are really really sweet, so I  probably won't give them to him that often.
Jude always nurses before solid food but he still has an appetitite.
I'm going in for Jude's well check next week and am not looking forward to discussing BLW with the dr!!!

Pauline - I know what you mean, but for us the milk feeds are straight after naps, so that deals with them - although I will give her a BF when we are out if I want to dash out straight after a nap. And we nearly always do lunch out - breakfast and tea are always at home.  So for lunch we do sandwiches, crispbreads, rusks etc - the less messy stuff, as Lyndsey suggests!

Hi Lyndsy,

I do realise she needs what she needs, it is just a bit frustrating.  I don't think we have baby mum mums in the UK.  I've certainly not heard of them.  What are they?

Bryony, I think pancakes are less messy if I give her little bits at a time and maybe French toast and pasta too.  I've found bread goes everywhere.

Thanks, as always.
