Plus none of them are fans of BLW.  They go on and on about is she using a spoon yet, what's the big rush?!!  She eats with her fingers and she doesn't eat anything where she needs a spoon.  Anyway, semi-rant over.
Pauline

Rant away, it's a support thread :)!

You are welcome to tell them about Eryn, who has never been spoonfed anything in her life by anyone other than herself. At nearly 19 months she is the most confident eater I know, isn't phased by any food, will try anything before she makes up her mind about whether she likes it or not, can competently use a spoon and fork as well as her fingers, and has a real sense of the social side of eating!

The no pressure approach of self-feeding is the most sensible thing I've heard in years - no eating disorders in this household (well, apart from my chocolate addiction ;D)!

Hi all!  Sorry not to have been around much recently.  Lots of bugs here - snotty noses, gunky eyes, sore throats, red bottoms - so somewhat rushed off my feet!  It hasn't put them off their food though.  For lunch the boys each ate 3 falafels, 4 cauliflour florets, a carrot and nearly a whole pear!  (I don't bother cutting fruit now... I just give it to them whole with a few bits of skin peeled to help them 'get into' it!!)  So it's not affected their appetites, at least!

A few things...

Soooooo sorry to hear about the mastitis.  Really hope it clears up soon.

Totally agree about cutting the milk feeds to 6ozs to see if it helps the sickness.  Fingers crossed for you.  xx

Would love to write a few lines about how much easier life is doing BLW with twins and a toddler to feed.  Lisa - remind me if I forget to e-mail you on it!

Fascinating about acid/alkaline foods.  My mum's a nutritionist and I remember her talking to me about all that when I was pregnant.  Truthfully, it went in one ear and out the other, but I AM very interested to hear where breastmilk fits into that.  Amazing stuff.

Now must get some sleep before the next coughing fit (not mine, thankfully) wakes me up...

Vicky

Tonight I gave her 6oz (well 200mls) rather than 8oz (240mls) and she was barely sick at all.  So I have put 6 oz in her first three bottles and the last bottle will make up to 8oz for tomorrow.  We shall see how that goes.  However, we've had a really poor sleep day, haven't had such a poor sleep day for months!!!  So wondering what type of night we're going to have.  So far she's slept an hour and then woke on and off for an hour and a half, got her past the 20 mins and did W2S, so we'll see.  I'm not too bothered that she doesn't use a spoon at all, she'll get there in her own time.

I love BLW and sooooo glad we are doing it.  My niece and nephew (8 and 3 respectively) are really fussy eaters and I was too, I just can't believe the variety that Alice is willing to eat.  Tonight she had a few bits of sausages and oven chips and kept saying tsstsstss for chips.  I was going to make tuna sausages tonight and banana muffins, but really couldn't be bothered after the day we'd had, so will try tomorrow.  If they're a success, will post the recipes.  Also going to try some biscuits, that are salt and sugar free, probably going to be really yuk!!  Husband made salt free bread last night, doesn't taste too bad actually.

Vicky, hope everyone gets better soon.  Soooo frustrating for you all.

Alison, I'm with you with the chocolate addiction.  However, made a chocolate sauce (melted chocolate and butter together) for some vanilla ice cream, it was gross.  We only had dark chocolate in the house (75% cocoa solids!!!) and it was soooooo bitter, I could barely finish it.  I did manage though.  ;)  I normally do half milk and half dark to make it less bitter and not so sweet.  ;D

Pauline- When I give Meghan the spoon, she just swings it around and the maybe eventually gets it into her mouth, but it may be the handle.  LOL
No worries, it will happen eventually.
I made some pumpkin muffins today and when I tasted one, it was kind of dry. A lot more like bread than a muffin.  So, I was contemplating what I could add next time to help with that, when I opened the microwave to make a cup of tea and there was the butter I'd melted and forgotten to add.  Duh!  Well, they'll have pumpkin bread with butter added on top until that's gone and next time I'll try to remember to add the fat!

Lyn, you did make me laugh.

Today we gave Alice 3 X 6oz bottles (190 mls in each) and then an 8oz bottle before bed.  She hasn't been as sick at all today, a wee bit, but certainly much less.  So will stick with these amounts for the foreseeable future.  Also made some tuna croquettes.  Will try them out on her in the next couple of days and see how she takes to them and then post the recipe if they're a success.

Thanks both.  The croquettes were pretty easy to make, but I tried to fry them in oil first and they just melted away to nothing and were really greasy.  So they went in the bin, so then roasted them in the oven and they look really good.  We'll see how they go down.  Then I'll post the recipe.  It's an alternative to fish cakes.  I was going to make muffins too last night, but I really couldn't be bothered once I'd finished all the chores.

She had a bad night last night and is really, really clingy and moany today.  So not sure if she's coming down with a cold or it's her teeth, or a bit of both.

Lyn, one time I made cookies without the sugar!

Poor Alice! Get well vibes!

My fever broke Saturday night! We had cheesy pancakes for lunch with chicken added to Jake's. I also crushed frozen blueberries for him. He enjoyed painting his tray with them, but I don't think any actually made it to his mouth. :P

My lo is only 6.5 months and we have been having cereal since 5.5 months and he eats it very well.We tried a few veggies but used jars and he hated it.Then i made my own and it was better but he still wasnt happy about it.So i figured i would try finger foods. We are currently trying sweet potato and he is doing very well. Its a huge mess but its worth it if he eats and he is really enjoying feeding himself. He sits up beside daddy at the table and laughs and has a great time.I am so glad i found out about blw!!

Christina, welcome.  I'm really glad you found out about BLW too.  If you want info on how to get started we had a discussion earlier in this thread with a newbie.  I was going to add a link to the page where the discussion was, but the site is taking an absolute age to do anything, so might try again later.  I think it's either page 11 or page 9.

I made banana muffins this afternoon.  They taste quite yummy, haven't tried them with Alice yet, so will post the recipe of that too when she has.  She seemed to like the tuna croquettes.  So will post that when I get a chance.

Lovedtodeath, really hope you're feeling better soon.

Not sure if there are many of you with older LOs (1 year or more)?  Now that Katie is nearly 1 year old (eeek!) I am suddenly realising that I can't just say "until one it's just for fun" whenever she doesn't eat anything....  and wondering what, if anything, I should do if she doesn't eat anything one meal time. Until now I just didn't worry about it as I figure she will fill up on milk later, but should I now be more concerned? Like tonight, Katie ignored and/or chucked on the floor her salmon steak, boiled potatos and veggies..... then an hour later was crying with a real "cough" quality which I usually interpret to mean hunger.  I gave her a rusk which she downed in a flash and then was happy as anything for the rest of the evening.  So should I have offered her something different at dinner if she was refusing her meal?  I don't want to set a precedent of letting her have whatever she wants to eat, but at the same time I don't want her going hungry!

Any thoughts??

she's had salmon and boiled spuds before and seemed to like them...

At this age, I usually had dinner and then "the alternative," which for my kids was usually Cheerios and milk (actually still is).  I think they're still a little young to understand 'you eat what you're served,' KWIM?
