Monsi we are happy to help you here, but I really think you should post it in the BF forum, more expert help there. Jake is 9 months and he still cluster feeds before bed. (I pretty much just let him bf non-stop for an hour and a half before bedtime) I have been really lax about a schedule though because his sleep is doing really well, so I am not so worried about feeding don't fix what ain't broke IYKWIM.

We are having a difficult time BLW. He shoves too much in his mouth and cannot eat it will either fuss until I dig it out or just chew on the same bite for over an hour so doesn't get much food. He has also started putting anything in his mouth.... not just the soft part. (He will eat broccoli stems for example) I geve him macaroni and he threw it all to the floor, but he loves forks and ate it very well as I led mine to his mouth. So I am not sure at this point I think I will just feed him with a fork for most things, and stick to pancakes and such for finger foods. :-\ Not exactly BLW.

Well...the first few days of blw were going so well but now Lucas seems to have decided its more fun to mush his food in his fingers then it is to eat it.Today at lunch 99% of his sweet potato went on the floor. But if i put pieces in his mouth for him he will eat it and then mess the rest in his fingers. It was one huge mess....lol

Some encouragement ladies :) I guarantee that your los will not starve themselves! It is not a waste if your lo plays with the yam wedges before chucking them on the floor rather than eating them - it's all about learning for them, and about trusting for you - when they start this process solid food is a potentially edible toy rather than a source of nutrition!

Calpol and cuddles are good remedies! :-*

If ds is gorging, lovedtodeath, try offering one piece of food at a time rather than a plateful - broccoli stems are highly nutritious btw, just as much as the flowers!

Well yesterday Katie ate a whole Babybel cheese - including the wax  :P

It had disappeared - and I was hoping it had just gone on the floor or something - but the amount of red wax in today's nappy would imply otherwise  :o :o

Hee-hee!!  That's hilarious that Katie ate the whole thing!!  Sorry - I probably shouldn't laugh, but it did make me giggle!

Monsi - I was under a lot of pressure from people around me to get more solids into my twins in the hope that it might help them sleep through.  It didn't.  I'm afraid they didn't start sleeping till 10 months old.  It seemed to have nothing to do with their solid intake and everything to do with them being ready to sleep through.  Sorry to say that!  (But I hope it takes the pressure off the solid issue a bit though!)

On the subject of nappy contents... I found a whole, complete, untouched cannellini bean in Kayden's nappy today!  It had obviously not been chewed or digested in any way.  So here I am trying to get all this nutritious food into them, but it would appear that a not insignificant quantity of it is travelling straight through untouched!  Are they really getting any goodness from it if that's the case?  Silly question probably, but I couldn't help but wonder if purees are maybe easier to digest.  :-(  Sorry to be thinking naughty thoughts!!

Well we tried some turnip today...some went in but most did not lol.It is weird though because my lo can eat those dry baby cereal puffs like a pro but gags on soft cooked turnip, sweet potato and carrots...go figure.

LOL about the wax!!

Thanks Alison, problem is he can't eat the stems. They stay in his mouth for over an hour until he is crying about it. ::)

in reply, i usually peel a small bit of pears, plums, nectarines etc (or more often take a couple of bites myself!) just to get him started and then let him go....
must say i do love this approach, watching him chomp away, smacking his lips makes me laugh out loud!!!

Ok, I did laugh when I read your post.  But then I also thought "Babybels what a good idea!" and went out and bought some for Meghan today.   :)

It depends on the fruit, sometimes I peel apples, peaches, and pears, sometimes not.  Kiwi I peel.  What else is there?  Oh, plums, I will peel because I think those skins are a bit tough.  I've only given her canned apricots so far.
She doesn't seem to like potatoes or sweet potatoes, except for fries.  So, I just give her those occasionally and I haven't been offering her the skins yet.

I leave the skins on whenever possible - there's so much goodness in them!  But with apples, pears and other 'soft' fruits, I will kind of peel off a few strips so they can 'get in'.  Or if I give them apple rings (I core the apple then cut then widthways - real easy to hold) then there's no need to peel.  I always leave the skins on potatoes and other vegetables.
