When to start transition to 4hr EASY
« on: December 11, 2007, 22:20:20 pm »
Hello All

I was wondering when I should start transitioning my DD to a 4hr EASY. She is 3.5 months old now and I think she might be ready. She easily stays awake for 2 hours.

Our schedule today was:
Wake: 6:45
E: 7:00
S: 8:00

E: 10
S: 12:15

E: 1:15
S: 3:30

I'm hoping she'll sleep until 5pm and I'll then feed her.

She will go to bed a 7 with a feeding just before bed.
DF at 10
Usually wakes at around 4:30am for a feed
Up for the day at around 7

I use to give her a DF at 11, but lately she has been waking at 10pm and then again at 4:30 ish. Before she'd go to closer to 6? Do you think she is going thru a growth spurt? She was VERY grumpy yesterday - today she is all sunny again?

What signs do I look for to know that she is ready for 4hr EASY? (We are still having some short nap issues, but I think it is getting better...maybe...I hope!)

Another question - when do I stop the DF?

Thank you all again!

Y

The DF goes until about 8-9 months or so.  All baby dependant.

As far as 4 hrs, keep paying attention to her cues.  Basically, it will be when she can go longer between feeds.  Like if she wakes early from a nap, you don't necessarily need to feed her right away unless she asks for it.  Although BW suggests 4 months for a 4 hr EASY, each LO is different.  Some BF'd ones can't go that long until Solids come along, but we were able to go right at 4 months.

It does sound like she might be going through a GS.  You'll keep having those along the way.  You're doing great, and then you back track a bit, but then there is typically a leap forward.

HTH!
