Just a real quick question...
« on: December 12, 2007, 19:33:03 pm »
For the past 2 days my ds's (almost 22 months) naps seem to be a little on the short side.... yesterday he only slept for about an hour and today it was just over 45 minutes, he did wake up today a little unhappy, so I did WI/WO for about 30-40 minutes, he slept through the night last night and was only up once the night before... MAJOR progress!!  We've dealt with a lot of sleep issues the past few months, and I'm a tad bit paranoid!  Should I be worried that he's in another OT stage and another regression?  Or it it normal for them to go a little off their nap schedule on occasion?  I read somewhere that Tracy had a way to get out of the 45 minute naps... Thanks for any information... :)

Are you giving 2 naps?
Could you post your routine?

Yes, sometimes they get a little off, like a phase.  And since he has had a change in the night, then it can affect the naps, but that should even out.  Also at around this age it seems that they retain more of what they are seeing during the day and learning new things, that can also affect sleep, even naps.  Have you tried a kind of wind down for naps, maybe he needs help getting in the mood for a nap.

He usually wakes around 6 now (had been between 5-5:30), he's down for his 1st and only nap by noon, and up anywhere between 1-2:45.  He is in bed by 7-7:30 depending on when he wakes up from his nap and the the length of his nap. He slept through the night again last night, so I think we are on the right path.  I know that at one point we got into a really bad OT stage, and his naps were maybe 20-30 minutes... I know I'm probably too paranoid, but I feel like we've been put through the ringer!   :)  We do have a great wind down schedule.

Good to hear that he is starting to sleep through the night.  There is nothing like consistent sleep, ahhh.  Hope it continues.

I think that that is what this site is for.  It might bother IRL friends family, especially b/c alot of them don't even expect that their lo's can sleep through the night or take naps any way voice your worries so you can relax.  You aren't an idiot, you are a mom wanting what is best for your lo.  You will enjoy his naps a little more if you relax instead of worrying about when he or if he is going to wake up :).  Enjoy.
