calpol allergy?
« on: December 17, 2007, 19:22:08 pm »
Hi, my LO had his second lot of injections today and when he was hot and distressed later I gave him 1 2.5 ml of calpol. He very soon went 'mad' very loud babbling and growling noices mixed with fussing, crying and wriggling. Is he allergic to calpol? It took more than half an hour to settle him and then he did go to sleep. Any thoughts or advice?

Personally to be on the safe side i'd ring your Dr  (or nhs direct) and just asks if its normal.
but DD can be like that with medised -she gets very hyper whenever she was given it (esp if it was too close to bedtime) so we stopped it.i think some LOs can be a little more senstive to meds than others.

My son goes hyper with calpol. We think it may be the colouring in it but not sure. If he was given it at 6.30pm (which is usually his bedtime) he would still be wide awake at 11.00pm. James is also very fidgity. We just avoid it now and give calprofen instead. I am not sure if that is an option for you though as I don't know what age you can have it from.

My DD used to react to the dye in Tylenol so we only use dye free meds here.
