PLEASE HELP 11 1/2 month old taking one 1hr. 15min nap!
« on: December 19, 2007, 22:13:13 pm »
Hi, I am at a lost!  My son at about 9 months dropped down to one nap, I was extending the am nap and then giving the pm catnap, when eventually he refused to take the pm nap.  For a few weeks this worked O.K. he then would nap between 2hr.-3hrs. but then was so cranky I put him back on two naps, shortening the am nap and extending the pm.  This worked great for awhile.  1hr. in the am, 2hr.s in pm, then I had to shorten the am even more as he would not fall asleep for the pm,  For the last five days he has out and out refused the am nap, he will chat in his crib for 45min. so he has been on one nap.  But that one nap is not long enough.  he has had 1hr. 15min, one day, 1hr. 15min, fell back asleep for 3hrs. yeah, but then a 1hr. 45min, and then today woke at 1hr. 15min and is now chatting in his crib.
The one good thing is his nights are still good. goes to bed fine at 7:30pm (have tried to put down earlier, won't have it, cries till 7:30) and sleeps till 7:15, 7:30ish, today he slept till 8:15!

His morning A time is 4hrs. 15min, today I extended it by 10min hoping I would get alonger nap.  Usually a overtired nap he would wake up crying at 1hr. 15min, but he didn't wake up crying this today, he has been in his crib happy now for 30 min.  The stretch till bedtime is too long, he is so cranky.  I am not sure what I can do, please help.

when were you putting him down for his naps when he was having 2?
Some kids take longer to adjust to sleeping longer for that 1 nap so until it is sorted you may need to shot for a slightly earlier bedtime.

when we had two naps: his routine looked like this:
7:15ish wake
10:15am: Nap 1 for one hour, shortenend to 30min
2:00pm: Nap 2 for 2hours
bedtime at 7;30pm
I am hoping the one nap gets longer, when he was doing one nap at 9 months they did start to get longer but then went back to short.  I will try for an early bedtime but tonight he was happy till 7:30pm, his normal bedtime, who knows why?  that meant he was up from 1:45 to 7:30. . .
Do I just stick with the one now, I guess there isn't much else I can do.

As long as he doesn't get OT and start waking in the night or have early mornings.
