So I have posted on the reflux board a lot, but thought this was the best place
for this post.

Tyler (3 mos) old has been on Elecare for 1 full month now, before that he was on Nutramigen for a month.  His poops on Nutramigen were normal looking, but he was still having tons of gas and just so irritable, so we were told to try Elecare.

He seems so much happier, but we also started Zantac at the same time as the Elecare (amino acid formula) and started doing anal stretches due to him having a tight anus (anal stenonis). Also he is 3 mos now.

His poops have always been either complete water or water with mucus in it.

Please take a look and let me know if this looks like mucus or just normal poop.  Right before he pooped, you could hear his stomach rumbling and then he has an explosive (very explosive) blow out and lots of gas.  He seems fine though.

Thanks!! Wendy

Hi - I'm not sure about the pictures but Ella had nappies like this at a young age (2/3 months), but was never on medication for anything, so perhaps its okay.

I'm sure someone else will give advice but I think I would only worry if it happened repeatedly.  I would also worry if my little one was uncomfortable or irritable.

I know this doesn't help but thought I would let you know that Ella has had nappies the same.

Lol well, while looking up mucous poop and elecare on google I found this:  Click me

Anyway... could be the lubricant your using to do the anal stretches with.  Seem fairly normal to me.  But, if you're concerned I'd take a sample to whichever doctor is currently providing you with his treatment plan.

Good Luck.

Henry's nappies looked very similar to this, except with the mustard seeds which was breast milk. I would say it is 'normal' for a baby with an immature GUT. It is too uniform to be the KY only, I would say. If it was due to the KY jelly, it would sit on the outside, does that make sense? Henry's poos also look 'normal' but green on the nutramigen.

Our GUT makes mucous to line the insides everyday, all the time. This is normal. It helps things move along. As the Elecare is broken down to such an extent, the baby needs very little 'input' to break it down and absorb it. There would be very little waste and it would look differently to that of another milk like Nutramigen or CBF. I hope that makes sense. That is why breastmilk babies' poop look similar, just 'white' seeds in the yellow/green mucous making it look like mustard seeds - or I thought sesame seeds.

LOL, Zoey, the link you posted is really  8)

I think with Zach growing well, looking comfortable and now sleeping through, I would ride it out. As the GUT matures, the lining of the intestines heals and hopefully Zach outgrowing his issues, the poop will keep changing too. That is what we have seen with Henry.

Hugh poop looks like that (he is BF and being treated for reflux also).  I explained about it to the paed (she didn't see it, but seemed to understand what I was referring to) and she said that can be quite normal.

Thanks so much.  Great to know that it could be normal.

Zoey:  I have not been doing the stretches the last couple days to make sure it was not the KY Jelly.

Funny you found my post on Parent 2 Parent.  That is the other website I told I think it was Sharon about.  I wet on there when Zach was a baby for his reflux (hence the name Zacsmom).

Donna: It is actually Tyler, not Zach (he is my 2 year old)  8)

I feel much better knowing it is normal.

If his poops are normal, I think I like your amnio acid formula better than ours. Iam is on Neocate and his poops are very pasty amd so green they look black.

We tried Neocate and his poops were AWFUL.  They were so thick and black.  It was like a black log sticking out of his butt.  Now they are just all liquid or liquid with mucous.

We just tried to transistion to Nutramigen again and his poops were nice and fluffy (normal) no mucous, BUT he was miserable.  We did a slow transition over 3 days and by the 3rd day (being yesterday) his stomach was in knots.

So I guess the way poop looks does not really matter.

Looks like we are Elecare for a very long time.

Oh.. If you lo's does not seem to tolerate Neocate, try Elecare. Some just do better with one v/s the other.  It is $189.00 for 6 cans on the Website, but you can find it on Ebay much cheaper.  Same thing with the Neocate, much cheaper on Ebay.
