Need advice for four month old night wakings
« on: December 22, 2007, 21:20:16 pm »
I could use some advice for my four month old night wakings. She wakes every night between 11:45 and 2:00 and then again between 4 and 4:30 and then sometimes again at 5:45.

Here is our schedule -
Wake between 7 and 7:45 and eat
Sleep from 9to10 or 9 t0 11
eat at 10:45
sleep from 12 to 2ish
eat at 2:15 ish
sleep from 4 to 4:45
eat at 5 (small bottle or breastmilk) our pediatrician said to squeeze in another feeding during the day
awake from 5-7
eat at 7:15
asleep between 7:30 and 8
I usually dreamfeed at 11 but if I don't, (a couple times I have fallen asleep and my husband has forgotten to wake me up to feed her at 11) she still wakes at the same times. I know she is not hungry when she wakes between 12 and 2 because she'll take a pacifer and go right back to sleep. She'll also sometimes take a pacifier at 4:00 if she wakes but I usually feed her and then she is up again at 5:45. - if she wakes then, I can usually hold her off until 7:00 by giving her the pacifier.

Any thoughts?

How is she when she wakes at night? Crying or just fussy? Does she seem hungry?

I would also look at an earlier bedtime as her catnap ends at 4:45pm & the last A time is usually shorter than other A times so it could also be that she is awake for too long before bedtime (close to 3hrs... which is too long for her age) & therefore the nightwakings. I would look at bedtime around 7pm so that she is asleep around 7-7:15pm

Also you might want to start looking at 4hr EASY so that feeds are 4hrs apart & she takes more in at each feed. Try adding 15mins or so to her feeding time so she is not stretching the whole hour at once...

So something like this:
7am - wake & feed
9-10.30/11 - morning nap
11am - feed
12.30/1-2.30/3pm - afternoon nap (if the morning nap is only 1hr long then the afternoon nap would start around 12pm)
3pm - feed
4:30/5-5:15/5:45pm - catnap (if the morning nap was only 1hr & the afternoon nap was from 12-2 then catnap would be around 4pm as it is at the moment)
7-7:30pm - feed & bedtime (if the catnap ended around 5pm then bedtime no later than 7pm... to be asleep by 7pm that is. If catnap ended close to 6pm then bedtime can be later so around 7.30pm)
11pm - dreamfeed

hth & hope I didn't confuse you too much
Let me know how things are going
Layla :)

I would trans. to 4 h easy, it's working for me as even napping is getting much better. Try it but do it slowly. Check the puPD chapter to teach you how. All the best luck. Keep strong.
