Hello all, I have been a bit AWOL, L is keeping me busy  :)

Leslie you are already having one nap days that you haven't even planned for so you may as well officially go for one nap and close that PM A time a bit. One nap is better for your own sanity too! If her morning A time is increased she will probably be too tired to put up much resistance to WI/WO as well. I still really stretch L's morning A time sometimes and gets an OT nap but I always get her to bed on time or early and find it has little effect on her nights.

Nicola, Leorah also has a cold today which I think may be why she has been waking at 4ish the last few days, there's always something isn't there  ::)

Laura, I have so much respect for you coping with a toddler and a baby who aren't following the rules!! I love your avatar, they look so cute together  :)

Leslie what is EGAD????

BTW girls, no more granny bashing please!! My Mum is in another country and I'd do anything to have her here helping out even if she was the queen of AP!! I think you are right our babes can definitely tell the difference between their parents and their grandparents.

Well here's hoping that we all have a good nap day and night  ;D
Katt

If you think she still needs to catch up and don't want to chance 1 nap then put her down at 9.30 for 30mins then try 1.30 for pm nap.  I think a 30min nap at 10 is too late she then isn't ready to go down at 1.30 and probably fights past the point where she should of gone to sleep and ends up OT for pm nap.  Stick with this again for at least 3 days and see what happens.  Also keep trying to extend that pm nap.  If she goes to sleep at 1.30 and wakes at 2.30 I would try to extend for another 30mins at least bringing total 'nap' duration (sleep & training) to 1.5hrs.

You all are right... 1 nap it is.  :-[

I tried to put her down at 9:30am, and she wasn't having it.  Gave it 10 mins and then got her up and went outside in the freezing cold for a walk for 30 minutes.  Fed her some yogurt, and had her in bed at 11:20am (kept jostling her during lullaby to keep her semi-awake) and she fell asleep about 11:23/4.

The worst that happens is a 4:30pm bedtime, which right about now I could use.

  ::) ::) ::)

40 mins, 11:23am-12:03pm

I did manage to get her b2s in her crib, but only for about 5-10 mins then the heat started making noise and she was up.

4:30pm bedtime.

I can't win for losing.

First day of one nap was never going to be a winner, you know that. We'll have a better idea of whether things are going in the right direction after the weekend  :)

Katt - I agree re: granny bashing (tho admittedly I have been the worst culprit!). My mum passed away when I was 6 weeks pregnant with Ollie and I can only imagine what a blessing it would have been to have her around. Fortunately my dad is a very hands on grandpa and has been an awesome support :)

EGAD! By God! Or similar exclamation!

And as for my two not following the rules - we're on day 4 of no naps :'( Please let tomorrow be a napping day!!

40mins is a lot better than 30mins, so thats a start  :)

I've actually turned the heating off before now just to prevent all the creaking floor boards & pipes clonking, to get Lily to sleep then turn it back on when she wakes up.  I also don't have the heating come on in the morning till 7am so the noise doesn't wake Lily early  ::)

I've just had a scan through first 4pgs of post and actually things started to really improve quite quickly last time, even when you had her in bed by 4.50pm you then got a 6+ wake up.  I'm positive it will work this time  :)

Oh Laura 4 days  :o Lily has just done her 2nd no napper, but that was probably my fault  :-[ I've had a crappy day from hell and for some reason I thought lunch was 12pm instead of 11.30, wasn't till I noticed it was 12.15 that I realised we should be starting wind down already and Lily was still munching on her toast  ::)

Katt- you're right.  I'm so thankful my mom is alive and close by to help out.  But you know how it is when someone else (inadvertently) wakes your baby  ;D  And like Laura mentioned, EGAD is like "Oh God".  Isn't it funny how language is a little different everywhere?  I notice it sometimes when I'm reading posts.

Laura- seriously, I'm praying to the sleep gods for you (though I'm not sure they exist, at least in this house  ;) )  Yes, I knew today's nap was going to be short, by I was still hoping against hope.

Nicola- we live in an apt. building so have no control over the heat  >:(  Hope tomorrow is a better day for you  :)

Surprisingly tonight M did not fall asleep drinking her bottle.  In bed at 4:27pm, and asleep by 4:40pm.  We'll see what tonight brings!

BTW, I did try to extend in her crib after she woke, but it was no-go.  Is it better to APOP or just let her sleep and then try to extend with WI/PD/WO?

NO APOP!!!!

You have come tooooooo far - keep using WI/PD/WO to try and extend naps. Remember it took Nic a few weeks for this method to work with extending naps for Lily so be persistent.

Hey Leslie

I just had to post - I've been reading through your posts and am feeling so sorry for you :'(
I can completely relate to your situation as my DS is also a terrible napper (always has been) and for the last few months has been having several NW's which is making us all tired and cranky!  My DH and I both work (although I am only part time) and I think daycare contributes to some of our problems too.  The only real difference between our situations is that your LO is reasonably good about going to sleep whereas DS is taking up to 1.5 hours to go to sleep at night  :(

You mentioned in one of your posts that you were considering using Benadryl, I live in New Zealand so I'm not sure if the Benadryl we have is the same as yours but I did have some advice from my doctor regarding using sleeping "medicines".  She has three children herself (all boys) and so is quite sympathetic to sleep problems!  She prescribed us an antihistamine and recommended we use it for three nights at a full dosage for DS's age and then reduce the dose over the next three nights until he wasn't having any at all.  For some babies this can help them to get back into the habit of sleeping through the night which might be all they need.
We tried it over Christmas with no success but there was a lot of other stuff going on at the time and out routine was totally messed up.  I'm considering trying again now that we have the daytime routine sorted and having tried everything to fix our nights with no success.  At the very least it will give me and DH a bit of a break and DS might catch up a little on his sleep (fingers crossed).

I am really against sleeping aids but I think desperate times can call for desperate measures and you have to look after yourself in order for you to be able to look after your LO so it might be worth thinking about.

Hang in there, you've had so much great support and advice I will keep logging in to see how you are going and to maybe learn a few tips myself - I think our LO's are equally stubborn but maybe soon we'll both turn the corner and things will start to improve  :)

Hi, how was your night Leslie? I am presuming your first few days of one nap will be short as M has to clock on to the fact that she is only napping once again, just remember things did improve much quicker.

Laura sorry to hear about your mum, that must have been so hard, it's great that you have such a devoted dad/grandad  :)

I hope Olly and Lily both take their naps today! L's cold meant she did a 2 hour nap yesterday  :o She also slept through the night but she is so snotty and coughing today I can't see a repeat performance happening!!

Mum of Rohan, it's always a shame to hear of another short napper, I hope you find things improve soon  :)
Katt

mum of Rohan- thank you for your support, and for following my never-ending saga!  I doubt my PED would give us an antihistamine, as she's pretty conservative.  I've had an incredible amount of support from Katt, Laura, and Nicola.  In fact, I think they should be charging me a fee with all the advice they've freely given  :)

Katt- YAY L for her 2 hour nap and excellent night!  Too bad she's not feeling well- but hopefully the rest will help her recover sooner.

We had a GREAT night!!!  Asleep by 4:40pm, a little stirring at 6:20pm, and then awake for the day at 5:57am.  We'll try the same again today (though H is home due to snow, hopefully it goes well), nap at 11:30am.

I'm sending nap vibes to Laura and Nicola  :-*

Fantastic night !!!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D got my fingers crossed for at least the same again today if not better  ;)

Well your nap vibes worked for Lily  :) She slept solid through the night again last night but was a super cranky monster this morning.  5 meltdowns in a row, then I tried a story, another meltdown so straight to bed at 12.10 asleep by 12.20.  I'm expecting she will wake up bang on 1.35pm (OT nap) but its better than nothing at all  ;)

Laura got my fingers crossed for Ollie too, he must be getting grumpy by now if Lily was anything to go on skipping 2 days.  God knows what she would be like after 3 days :o

Looks like we're into day 5 of no naps if the noises from upstairs are anything to go by  ::)
Hey but at least I've managed to get Amy to fall asleep by herself twice today  ;D

Great night Leslie - I think we're back on the right track now. With all the work you've done on sleep training too I am really hopeful that you're going to see a sensible sleep pattern emerge in the next week.

Fingers crossed eh?  :)

Laura- Could it be that Ollie is just on a nap strike from the weekend no-sleep fest?  I'm glad at least one of the kids is napping  ;)

We had 40 mins again, 11:25am-12:05pm, but as H was here, he rocked her b2s as she was still sleepy.  Still sleeping now at 12:41pm.  Hopefully that won't screw us up  :-\

It won't screw you up, don't worry about that.

It could be all sorts of things with Ol - his last canine is almost almost through and the previous no-nap fests seem to have coincided with each of those coming through so I'm hoping it will all settle down in a few days...  ???

On the plus side, both kids in bed (and one asleep) by 6pm on a Friday night! My beer tastes lovely  ;D
