We're trying soy........
« on: December 30, 2007, 19:58:26 pm »
Well, Bella won't be going home with biomom anytime soon so we're trying soy again today. Started this a.m. and she's drank about 12 oz so far today and no problems. The big indicator will be tonite as that's when we've had all our problems before. Fingers crossed.  :-\

I hope it goes well. I am also glad you have the time to trial soy without it being rushed.

But do you still do soy then?

She actually slept better last night than she has in a longtime but there could be other factors effecting that, too. We only got a small thing of soy milk and I didn't bring it to school. So now she's on the rice milk. I feel awful about it - do you think it's going to effect her that badly?  I just didn't think it through real well.

So, do your children get constipated or what happens and how do you fix it?

I'm sorry I always say that to the BW mums who try soy but I don't think it's a good idea. It's even more of an allergen than dairy is and soy formula is not recommended in Germany, I think it may even be banned.

If she shows no signs of being allergic to it, fine, but many babies react fine and after a few weeks develop an allergy towards soy, too :(

Well, that just sucks. She was on soy formula (apparently they think it's ok here) but then didn't do well when we switched to milk off the formula.  Rice milk really isn't all that nutritious so what else would you suggest if not soy? Reactions to goat's milk, lactose free, and regular milk.  :P  She does have bad exzema on arms and legs most of the time anyway, so...........  uuggh.

How does she react to Neocate, Alimentum or Nutramigen?

There are ways to make rice milk more nutritious. Some other moms have added a concotion of coconut milk (for fat) and protein powder to it, some also add in Nesquick to make it taste better.

Steffi - I have no idea how she reacts to those as I've never even heard of them (haha).

She's not underweight and likes protein to eat so I'm not sure I'd need to add anything. I'm going to WIC for the boys on Thursday so I'm going to talk to them then and if they're not sure, I'll call the Dr. - oh, which I may do anyhow as I just remembered Bella gets her 2nd flu shot on Friday.

So, ya think I should just stick with rice til then? Maybe I could try some regular yogurt as she loved that but had to be removed due to the dairy intolerance. Can you re-introduce things like this?

TBH if she drinks the rice milk well and eats protein and other fats I'd stick with the rice milk. You could always try regular yogurt but I'd be careful with her history of dairy intolerance.
