poop causing NW?
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:34:12 pm »
Hello all,
i have a 3.5MO DD, and she is sometimes pooping once at night, she wakes up a bit when she poops, and wakes up a bit more when i change her (she goes back to sleep OK after that). I know there isn't much i can do about it, 'cause ... when you gotta go, you gotta go... but my question is, Is it very common for babies to poop at night? how old aprox. they stop doing it? 'cause with my DS he only did that for the first month of his life, so i'm a bit puzzled.

a bit of background too, i used to feed her with Enfamil Lactose-free, but i changed her to Nestle Lactose-free brcause i was having a hard time finfing the Enfamil brand so the pead told me to switch to the Nestle one, but i did notice that with the Enfamil she only pooped every 2 days and sometimes with my help, her poops where hard. And with this formula her poops are much softer and more frecuent so i understand why she is going at night... but when does it stop!!! :P ::)

Hmm, I don't know!  Mine had phases of doing a poo in the night around that age, but it never woke her up - I just found a smelly nappy when I got her up in the morning  :P

I am sure others will have come across it - the boards are just quieter at the moment.

And like all things, it will pass!

Mine have both had problems with it.  Not sure what age they were when it stopped--it kind of comes and goes.  But I do know that when we started solids, I started giving them a little prunes with breakfast each day and that seemed to work the poops out before nighttime and we were good to go.

I know that doesn't help yet, but if you're still having the problem in a couple months, you can try it.

thanks for answering ladies

Bryony, she sometimes dosnt wake up from pooping, but since she is still sleeping in the moses basket in my room, if i get up to go to the bathroom i can smell her dirty nappy, so i change her... you are right, it will pass... eventually ::)

Baba, the formula im giving her its called NAN Lacose-free by Nestle, and it is milk based, but i live in Mexico,s o maybe we dont have the same brands as you, where are u from?

Kim, thanks that is a good tip... i will try if if the issue continues when she starts solids.

one more thing if it doesnt bother her and she doesnt have a rash dont change her diaper just put alot of diaper rash cream on her at the last diaper change .
