Took DS to the doctor today, she agreed that the milk seems to be the culprit and couldn't believe we didn't come to this conclusion sooner.
As I write this he is asleep...in my bed...but as I said, one thing at a time, I'm thinking I will use a gradual method to get him into the crib since it seems to traumatize him so much, I'll put his crib in my room for a while and see if that works, soon enough he'll be in his room :)  I'm so happy, he's been asleep for just over 2 hours now and hasn't even stirred!   :-X I better not jinx it ...time for me to get to bed too! :D I'm soo very happy
thank you again to everyone for all the help and suggestions, and wish us luck tonight :)

:-*  Another night of sleep!  12 hours to be exact!
My son is a different child now, he's happy all the time, I can't believe this.  If anyone has had problems with sleeping as badly as I did I would definitely suggest changing the diet along with some of the techniques that I have learned here.  Allergies don't always present themselves the way you think they would!
I'm so well rested....I feel like I have the energy of a 5 year old!!  :D

DS was put down @ 7:15 tonight...he woke about 1/2 hour later...crying...that same cry ....I tried very hard to watch his diet today but there may have been milk in some of the cookies he had @ snack time  >:(
and his nap (only 1 today...) was interrupted  ....he only got 1/2 hour!! So my fingers are crossed for tonight

Last night wasn't as bad as i had expected...thank god!
DS woke about 10pm, but wasn't crying, it's like he just happened to wake up...odd.  He laid with me for a while and watched the news lol...then fell back asleep on his own.  Slept until 7:30 this morning :)

Things seem to be going well. It is great news and I hope it continues ;D.

Sadly since DH is home at night now DS doesn't seem to be sleeping very well anymore :(  Last night was pretty much back to square one.  And I was VERY careful with his diet....I'm baffled now ???

I am so sorry to hear that. Could there still be any hidden dairy in his diet? They sneak it into everything these days and it is not always obvious on the labels. Is it possible that your ds has other allergies/intollerances that could be causing a problem? Are you using a milk substitute like soy milk? If so it could be possible he is reacting to this.

I never thought he might be reacting to the soy milk/lactose free milk...he did seem fine on the lactose free, but a few days ago I bought him some soy "chocolate milk" for a little treat....perhaps he is reacting to that.  I'll take him off it and see what happens.
You're so right, they hide milk and milk proteins in EVERYTHING!  I have to read every label now, it's very frustrating and confusing at times....I'm VERY glad I don't have peanuts to look out for!  That must be SO HARD for parents...but thank you for that thought, I'll give it a try...it just seemed odd to me that the 2nd night DH was sleeping @ home DS stopped sleeping well

DS still doesn't seem to be sleeping properly...last night between 8 and 10 he was probably up about 4 times, crying hysterically.  Can't figure it out, I'm being SO strict with his diet.  Yet if if I put him in my bed he sleeps soundly for HOURS....its only when he is sleeping in his playpen or crib (which is beside my bed!) that he is doing this.  So it makes me think that this is not because of hidden dairy, but rather an attachment issue?  Any ideas?  Also DH cannot  calm him when he wakes like this...he just continues screaming...not even really awake...the second I hold him he calms and goes right back to sleep....

I think you could be right with the description you have given. I am not the best person to answer that question but at least my reply will bump your post up.

I agree that it sounds less like diet now, and more like a sleep training issue.  I'd just encourage you to look at the situation, what works for your family in terms of sleeping arrangements.  If you want her sleeping in he crib, then using either wi/wo or GW I'd make a plan I felt I could be consistent with and pursue it.  Remember that it's a learning process and if you want her to sleep differently, you'll have to teach her.   :-*

Things are not going well.  DS has been up every 2 hours @ night again.  I have been using Toddler PD...I think...basically he cries I walk in and lay him back down, tell him it's time for sleep....sometimes he calms...if he does, then I leave and go back to bed if not I try to comfort him for about 1/2 before I bring him into my room.  However when I bring him in my room he is not in my bed, he's in a playpen...does that matter?  Any other ideas please!
