Just not settling!!!
« on: January 06, 2008, 14:40:35 pm »
7 weeks and trying to get into a routine. Feeding well 10 mins each side every 3 hrs sometimes 2-1/2, sleeping through night with 1 feed at 1am. Putting on weight. with all of these things you think he would settle between feeds but No.

After his feed he is fine he is now smileing and a bit of cooing but after about an hour he starts to cry. I think he is tierd but no matter what i do he will not sleep, until about half an hour before the next feed. He does not cry when held (is he just being crafty?). Tried a dummy, doesn't wan't it. WHAT CAN I DO ??? Its not getting me down just would like a bit of time to do some jobs.

Any advise?

Kate

Could it be wind? My little one used to cry after 1 1/2 hours and initially I thought it was food but I think in hindsight it was wind even though I burped him quite a lot.

Cheers
Vicky

I do sometimes have trouble getting the second wind up. So do you think by trying to get some more it may help him settle later.

At 7 weeks he might become overtired if left awake for a hour after eating.  I think A time for that age is roughly an hour, total.  Have you tried starting a windown routine and putting him down before he cries?  Some babies have a short window in which they will go down for a nap easily and if missed can become quite upset.

Do you have a windown routine?
It is possible that when he starts to fall into a deeper sleep that he jolts and thus wakes.  What type of swaddle have you tried.  I am not an expert on swadding but there are many who swear by it.  I think the Aussie swaddle is one I hear about a lot around here.

Don't really have routine. got any ideas?
just use blanket and wrap them tight with arms by there sides, I did it with my others and they all liked it. I think it makes them feel safe like in the womb.

Today has gone well, 8am feed then walked up school and then staight out in car to slimming world just 5 mins away. Did not sleep and was held at sw no crying. Came home fed him 10.45 then picked daughter up from school 11.30, he fell asleep on way home and slept til next feed 2pm. Just been fed and fallen to sleep on my arm, time for school again so back in the pram will see how we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some babies need a bit of a signal that it is time to relax and sleep.  Maybe try singing a song and saying "nap time" to a few stuffed animals and then try the swaddle.  You might also try a special swaddle blanket. They sell them at Babies R Us.  I was never great at getting the swaddle tight enough.
