Anyone use neocate?
« on: January 06, 2008, 20:04:28 pm »
Hello,

We are doing a trial run with neocate to see if it helps my lo with her allergies.  We are switching from Alimentum(which she always seemed to be hungry).  Since it is a bit more costly I am wondering if it is likely my dd will eat the same amount. (or if she will be fuller more quickly because it will actually be sticking in her system and not having long bouts of diarrhea) I am also wondering what weight gain was like for your LOs after using?  Same pace? Higher? lower?

Any insight on this formula is appreciated!!  My LO is 5 months now(well tomorrow) and was taking about 26-30oz) per day on Alimentum.

Thanks in advance!!

Me, we use it for Abbi  ;D I found that the runs diminished, her tummy was more settled, and no it didnt affect the amount she ate

It is an amazing formula which contains NO cows milk protein (the others contain it chopped down).  Siounds like she drinks a good amount of formula now, and if she still drinks the same amount of Neocate and doesnt have the runs, then yes her weight gain should be nice and steady.

I have nothing but praise for this formula. Watch out for dark poos, and give it at least 1-2 weeks before you see a brilliant difference

Good luck x

Do all formulas take roughly 1 - 2 weeks to see the full effects then?

With specialised formulas I believe so, some are pretty much immediate but they do say to allow this 1-2 week window as lo's tummies need to heal from being inflamed x

We have also had good luck w/ Neocate. DS has been on it exclusively for 3 weeks. Within a week, we had a blood free diaper (yeah). Now, he is starting to have good days.

I wish you luck with your LO.

James has done really well on neocate. It did take around 6 weeks though for all his symptoms to improve.

We started my daughter on it when she was almost 6 months and the result was practically INSTANEOUS.  No more blood in stool, no more painful BMs, no more painful gas, no more stomach aches, etc., within a weekend's time.  So quick, that her GI was surprised, telling us that he usually sees full effect in about 1-2 weeks like others have said.  My only complaint is the cost, as I'm sure the other moms will join me in this lament.  She has fattened up really well since then, but I don't know if that's also because she started on solids, too, but her doctors are all very happy with her weight gain/growth.  I don't think there was an explosive growth, as even when she had all the symptoms her weight gain was steady, but there was definitely an increase.  After a week of regular poop (yes, watch out for the funky dark green smelly stuff), her constipation started and lasted for about 2 weeks, but she is now pretty regular.  We do an oz. or 2 of diluted prune juice (1 to 1 ratio) every other day (in the beginning it was every day) or so, when we think she needs it.  Good luck!

It is free in the UK but in the US (and most other countries, if not all) you have to pay for it unless it is covered by insurance.

There may be exceptions depending on income, I don't know enough to comment on that. If any other country has the equivalent to the NHS than it may be free there. I guess in that way we are lucky to be in the UK.

If it works for us we will be working with our insurance company to cover. As of now they say they will not but I think with more documentation we mat be able to get them to.  We can hope atleast.

Day 2 on neocate she seems to be doing pretty well. We have had one more solid diaper but still a couple so far today that are still liquid like we have had for the past couple months....I guess that is some improvement though!! :)
