Sleepiness
« on: January 08, 2008, 13:41:30 pm »
Hi everybody

I have an  10 week old angel/textbook DS who is on a 3 hour easy since birth. He is now, since xmas sleeping through and always goes down well for naps and will usually cope with an hour and half A time.  The last few days however have been a bit different  in that he is struggling to stay awake for the normal activity times that he used to, and will take a much longer nap than usual.  I therefore keep missing his cues for sleep.  I may look down at his mat to find him asleep or he starts to winge a bit for sleep. Something he has never done before. HE is easily comforted and has a good routine for going to sleep so he goes down well, but I'm wondering why the change and the increased need for sleep? He is not ill, no temp etc and feeding well.
This our schedule;

7 am  wake, BF
7.45 Activity - nappy, songs etc
8.30 - 9am Sleep (usually for hour and half, but at moment wants 2 hours)
around 10.30am BF
11.15 Activity - nappy, may involve getting ready to go out in pram etc
12.30pm ish Sleep
1.30 - 2pm BF or expressed breast milk if out
2.45 activity - nappy. little bit of play time
3.45 ish Sleep
4.30-5pm BF at home
5.30 ish activity - usually daddy play time, nappy etc
may want to cat nap around now but usually doesnt want to go down.
6.30 BF (going slightly off the 3 hour feed but it works for us)
7pm bath, bedtime routine , story etc
7.45 top up BF
8-15 pm down to Sleep
10.30 Dream feed (formula bottle, he feeds better with bottle and stays asleep)
Sleeps through til 7 ish.

any thoughts or is it just a sign of being bit under the weather or heading for a growth spurt?
Thanks x

It could definitely be a growth spurt.  :) Their bodies are changing all the time and it can take a toll on their little bodies.
If he's still doing this in a week I would think it might be something else, but as long as he's sleeping well and eating well I wouldn't worry.
Congrats on him doing so well at night.  That's tremendous!
