Tummy Time troubles
« on: January 19, 2008, 05:08:38 am »
hannah is almost 4 months old.  She doesn't really like tummy time.  She will roll onto her back everytime... and when I put her back if she gets tired of rolling over she will just cry.

She has been rolling from tummy to back since she was just over two months.  How can I get her to enjoy tummy time more?  I have tried toys of all kinds... even putting her so she can see the TV while on her tummy... mirrors... etc etc.  She just isn't interested in them when on her tummy.

My DD always hated tummy time. She was always quite strong, just plain hated being in that position! The only thing that worked for short periods was with me lying on the couch and her on my belly facing me.  That way she'd forget what she was doing.

Our health nurse was always harassing us about tummy time, but we all found that our babies were just fine with limited tummy time. I imagine it's more important if they aren't too strong or not developmentally up to the average for head holding... that's just my opinion though!

Hi,

Don't worry too much about tummy time.  Mine didn't like it either, but now all she does is commando style crawling on her belly all around the house.  They all do things in their own time and we can only encourage them along the way.  She is still very young, I would just put Alice on her tummy for about a minute at a time and then take her up.  Putting her on my tummy didn't work for us, she still didn't like, so we did short bursts a few times a day.

My 6 month old hates it. I do it 2 or 3 times a day and pick him up when he's had enough.

I will definitely try laying her on my tummy and see what she thinks of that.  She is definitely strong and has very good head control so I guess I shouldn't be too concerned about it.

thanks for the tips everyone

Callie is 3 months and has had great head control for ages but doesn't much like tummy time either.

I just pop her down a couple of times a day and turn her back over when she does the 'I mean business' squeal/shout LOL
