Growth spurt or something else?

My 8 month old boy has just started screaming hysterically and arching his back when I put him to bed at night. He has been putting himself to sleep up until a few days ago. He is only calmed by a feed. Does this sound like a growth spurt? If so, how do I deal with it without getting him dependent on a feed to go to sleep?

It doesn't sound like a growth spurt to me as you'd be describing increased appetite at other times. The behaviour you describe also fits with overtiredness. Or he may be hungry for another reason (reduced calories in the day?).
Can you post a routine?
