Nighttime Burping
« on: January 31, 2008, 17:54:44 pm »
Hello everyone!

Are you all able to get a burp out of your children after night feeds?  My son always falls asleep after his middle of the night feeds (like REALLY asleep) and I have never been able to get a burp out of him while he is in this state.  Sometimes it works out OK, but other times, he wakes up an hour later with horrible gas pains and never really gets back to quality deep sleep.  Sometimes we are determined so we change his diaper to wake him up, and often times we will get a burp this way, but then it takes quite a while to get him back to that great deep sleep (up to an hour).  Any suggestions?

Thank you so much!

Hello,

How about you change/burp him when he is about 80% through the feed and then give him the last 20% to resettle him - hopefully this won't be enough to cause any more wind??

cute picture BTW

Zac seems to be suffering from wind quite badly at the moment and the best way I've found to get the burps is to hold him up to my shoulder and support his head and neck securly and then bounce quite vigorously (?spelling). I need to hold his head quite tight b/c otherwise he headbutts my collar bone which is obviously not good.

Someone else on here (Nicola) said that with her dd she lays her down on her knee and then picks her upright.

I would pick my little guy up right with his head over my shoulder and rub his back and usually one would just come out - I know what you mean, he too would have a heck of a time getting back to sleep if I couldn't get a burp out of him. As he got older, the burps just sort of came much easier when he was upright after a night time feed.
