as long as i am shhhhing - it's not cio right???
« on: February 04, 2008, 22:13:16 pm »
back to basics question i know...  but, please put my mind at ease.

if my lo wakes early from a nap, and is not wet/soiled/uncomfortable/hungry etc, just can't go back to sleep, and is crying his little heart out, and i am right there at the cotside shhhhing him.... it's not crying-it-out right?

if this goes on for nearly an hour during the night, and i am still there with him...  it's not cio right???

thank you

Right!  You are there soothing him, he is just having a hard time soothing.  CIO is leaving him alone and ignoring his crying.
When you're soaring through the air, I'll be your solid ground.  Take every chance you dare.  I'll still be there when you come back down.

CIO is when they are left alone to cry. Nobody comes.  What you are doing is helping your baby to realise that it is time to go to sleep.  as long as you let him know that you are there for him if he needs you for sickness, nappy, food etc, and it's bedtime and mummy will be there if he calls then he should sleep soundly eventually.

Have you ruled everything out?  teeth etc

thank you.  yep, ruled everything out.

we have a situation here, where dh is a pilot and is away alot.  when he is gone, lo sleeps solid 1 1/2 hour naps.  and sleeps well at night.

when dh comes home, naps stop at 45, and there is more night wakings and crying.  we have ruled everything else out, just happens when he comes home.

i don't mind sitting with him and shhhhing for those days, just wanted to make sure i wasn't hurting him.

thank you again.

Things will probably settle down when and when it does nothing will wake him.

Could DH be overstimulating your LO too close to sleepy time?
