Pulling off . . . getting right back on. Why?
« on: February 05, 2008, 18:01:46 pm »
My LO, 14-weeks Wed, just started pulling off and getting right back on the breast. She is not looking around at anything and nothing is obviosly getting her attention. She's only off for a second or two and back on.  Any reasons as to why?

At what point in the feed is it happening? Near the end - finishing time or near the beginning - frustration with letdown? Does she seem remotely bothered? Could it be wind/gas? Might she be pooing or peeing?
Is she looking at the breast? Any distinctive moles? :)

She tends to do it earlier in the feed but does not seem bothered. Could I have a different letdown now than before???

Hmm, not sure she's looking at the breast because she tends to do it in the light and the dark but when I see her, she doesnt seem to be looking at anything.

If she's not bothered then I wouldn't worry. It's unlikely to be a supply or letdown problem. If anything she might be pausing if letdown is too forceful OR I expect she's pausing to do a pee - which they sometimes do.

Hi, i noticed that my lo (16 weeks now) started doing this because he wasn't really hungry, i just moved a bit later the next feed and he was allright, now he is on 3.5hr instead of 3h feeds, i hope this helps  ;)

I was thinking the same about her not being quite hungry yet but wanting to suck to selth soothe. Seems to have been doing that lately.  Anabecca, when did you move from 3 to 3.5?

Could baby need to be burped, mine does the same thing when she needs to be burped. Try burping and then putting back on the breast. Could be a slow let down as well.
