Milk Sensitivity - Any Luck with Soy?
« on: February 05, 2008, 19:58:46 pm »
Hi All,

My DD is going to be 4 mos old this week.  She recently had a bad flare up of eczema.  She may have had it mildly before but we thought it was typical dry baby skin.  She's always had a little gurgling and wheezing after eating, usually slight and we thought that was her reflux.  Anyway, the doc is now saying that she thinks DD has a sensitivity to milk.  We have changed our detergent, soap and we're applying cream to her daily.  We were also told to change her formula to Alimentum.  Unfortunately she's not crazy about the taste and will only have a couple of ounces before having a fit.  So...now the doc is recommending trying a soy-based formula.  My concern with that is if she's not good with milk, is it likely that soy will bother her too?

Just wondering what other mommies have experienced.

Thanks!!
Mary

We have milk and soy sensitivity here, it is apparently quite common to be intolerant to both. If you are happy to give it a try and see how it goes then by all means give it a shot! Hugs!

It is quite common for people who are allergic/intollerant to dairy to also be allergic/intollerant to soy. Howevere not all are so it might be worth a shot.

I've heard that it is common to be sensitive to both.  :-\
I am praying the DD is not b/c she really does not like the hypo-allergenic formula and was refusing to drink it.  What will we do if she can't tolerate soy?  The soy formula has so far passed the taste test but now we wait...

I forgot to say that my ds is allergic to dairy and soy. I do personally know 2 children who were allergic to dairy but did really well on soy formula though.
