One of the BW Moms here had a "ticker" on their signature that said something like "I make milk - what is YOUR SuperPower?" I loved that!

In Canada I found it was pretty acceptable to nurse up to 1 year (also co-incides with how long our mat leave is).
But agree with PP that once they start walking/talking etc it can raise eyebrows! I nursed DS to 1 day before he turned 23 months. I heard a lot of "He'll sleep/eat/talk/play by himself better" if I'd have stopped earlier. Despite that he eat/talked/played fantastic (ok I admit- so he was not a stellar sleeper!)  :P

This time round I'm much more confidant/sure of myself. With Harry I would go upstairs if we were round MIL's or I would use a changing/bf room if we were out.  This time I don't care who I feed in front of!
I have fed in front of FIL (creeped me out a bit the 1st time!), BIL, his 11yo son and his wife, SIL, her husband and their 2 kids - 5y and 2y.  I have fed in front of friend's and their husbands.  I have fed in Bluewater, restaurants, the back of the van.  I am waiting, WAITING for a negative comment...
Harry: 29 July 2003
Lydia: 28 June 2005
Sam:  28 June 2005
David: 28 June 2005 - 12 August 2005
Daniel: 19 July 2007
That's all folks!
(Well, maybe another girl if I can convince DH!)

Just wanted to say well done for bf and sticking through it after what I understood to be a few bumps on the way with mastitis etc.
I live in Sweden (also lived in UK for 9 years) and here, or there, it would definitely not be considered weird at 33 weeks age. Most people I know here bf for longer than that. Think Sweden has some of the best bf rates from what I've heard. 2 would be "surprising" and 3 "weird" I'd guess here.
I bf til my LO was 9.5 months, then SHE decided she didn't want it anymore, and saved me the decision. I would have been happy to continue longer though.
Don't listen to what they say, do what feels right for you and your LO and be proud of yourself! If it's working well now, there's no reason to make a decision to stop now unless you really want to.
Happy feeding!

I dont think they should go on so much here about weaning babies off it at six months either here in the Uk....even with all the stuff they bombard you with i still dont think theres enough info on it  and the health benefits  >:(

Definately. Also weaning is very different here in italy and milk isnt considered the main source of nourishment and recommended milk intake at emily's age is 2 bottles (read this on the formula packet) thus people don't really 'get' why the baby 'needs' to BF at all at that age

Same here in NL. There seems to be no info about why bf might fill a baby's needs best after 6months, especially more than 2x a day - that's why people seem to act like if you bf longer then you're using the baby to fulfill your OWN need!! ::)

One could ask why the baby *needs* to EAT at that age! OK, it's about time to have some solids by then, but it's not totally necessary to be on solids even by 6 months.

I think my response would be a price-of-formula answer too: "Why would I give money to the formula companies when this is free? And why would I spend the time to make bottles when this is ready to serve? Heck, why would ANYONE?!?" ;D
