LOL same here. Hugh woke, and screamed and woke Zara so my night wasn't all that great.  But both asleep before about 8pm in the end. :P

Stacy - glad to her it and sounds good Rina and MommaHolmes too!

As for us, DD has been napping past few days and I've woken her after about 1.5 hours - sometimes a few minutes less. But she's now getting less than 10 hours at night even though she's falling asleep pretty easily at night. And she's in a pretty cranky mood. Maybe I'll let her go up to 1.75 hours if she's going to get 10 or less at night and see if that helps for now?

Karen, is she just waking earlier? and thus only getting 10hrs?

If Noah has only had 10hrs at night, and I've only let him nap 1.5hrs--then bed is maybe 15min ealier and he goes right to sleep and hopefully adds that extra 30min on the front of his night,

yes she is waking earlier than normal - today 6:30 instead of her usual 7-7:30.

Karen, do you think she is getting OT?
perhaps let her nap 1hr40min and aim for asleep by 8pm---she may wake at 6:30 tommorow but maybe she'll be better rested and then can go back to normal 1.5hr nap.
personally I don't find it helpful to get over those EW with 2hr naps----they just seems to reinforce them, but if I keep the nap at 1.5hrs and put to bed eraly--he catches up at night and starts the next day on the right track.

Deborah she is definitely overtired. Put her in crib at about 12:15 today and she would not nap. Finally at 1:15 had to get her up and left her 1:30 hoping she'd sleep in stroller while I ran an errand. But nope and now she's sitting here eating crackers and playing with the pots and pans. I guess at this point I'll try to keep her up and just do early bedtime. 7:30 is really the earliest we can do though - it's just impossible with DH's schedule to do any earlier and she refuses to eat dinner and sleep unless she was warned all day that he won't be home... It's really affecting her behavior (and my mood) too.

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time Karen. You could really do with finding a way to make it possible to get her to bed before 7:30 if she's OT and refusing naps  :-\ Can you tell her that Daddy has phoned to say that he'll be late or something?

We've had a weird one today. Up at 6:15, seemed fine at lunchtime so didn't try and get him to nap, left kids with DH so I could get a much overdue haircut and when I got back at 4pm Ollie was v tired and a bit meltie so decided to take him out for a drive to get a quick catnap in.

He fell asleep at 4:40, DH tried to wake him just before 5 and couldn't so carried him in from the car (this NEVER happens!), kept trying to wake him but he was sleeping the sleep of the dead. That's the first time since he was 6 weeks old that I have not been able to wake him!!

Eventually woke at around 5:30 as DH was getting him undressed to put him to bed - he looked like he'd gone to sleep for the night so seemed like the best thing to do.

Now trying to put him to bed at 7:30... don't fancy our chances!

LOL crazy with Ollie's nap! Hope he goes to sleep ok for you tonight.

I can certainly try to get her to sleep sooner but I highly doubt it will happen - she usually refuses anyway... but can't hurt to try and see. or if it's not raining I can take her out to the library in a bit and maybe she'll doze in the stroller and then do 8pm bedtime. not sure - guess will just have to see what happens...

Karen I too would get dh to call and say he will be home late or whatever works for you guys, but I would get him to do it early in the pm, like no later than 5 and if possible get him to say he will get her up in the am. This works really well for dd, dh works late frequently and travels a lot but a phonecall even a quick one works wonders. If I think dh is going to be late I will call him and ask him what time he will be here, if it's going to be late we use a conference call, meeting excuse and if he gets home even 10 mins before bed time that's an added bonus for us.

Thanks guys. We tried but she just wasn't having any of it. Ended up getting her into her crib just before 7:30 and think she was asleep by 7:45 after a super cranky day - so we'll see what tonight and tomorrow bring.

Hmmm... not so great day today.

Up at 6:15, and verrry fragile this morning. Kept toying with the idea of putting him down for a nap but he kept perking up so left him. Went shopping this avo and he fell asleep after just 10 mins in the car - not like him at all, usually takes more like 30 before he gives up the ghost. Had about 45 mins from 1:30pm. Tried to put him to bed at 6:30 as he was marginally rabid but didn't get to sleep until about 7:45  :-\

Not expecting a good night!

Momma Homles, JMO so take it or leave it  ;),
sounds as though Ollie is perhaps a bit young to go without a nap--and is getting OT. like you said, he wouldn't normally fall asleep so quickly-the fact that he is falling asleep so quickly likely means he would have/should have napped slightly earlier.

My son is 25months and is LOW on the sleep need requirments but still happily naps. mind you he is in his crib and does not have another sibling yet. I could not imagine him without a nap to be honest.

this is what our day looks like:
wake 6/6:30
nap 6hrs later from wake--so usually 12:30-2
bedroom at 7 for books etc, in to bed typically 5.25hrs after nap ends
asleep 20-30min later--so 7:30 or so
so anywhere from 10.5-11hrs at night and 1.5hrs at nap.

could you try the nap a bit earlier and see what happens?--lay down with him whatever just to get him to nap?

DD had a pretty good night. After falling asleep at 7:45 she "woke" at 10:15 with a night terror but then it ended pretty quickly and she slept until 6:45. Then she napped in the car today from 2:20-3:40 (late nap but we were running tons of errands). She didn't fall asleep until right about 9, which is late but at least she was in a good mood today and we'll see what happens tonight/tomorrow. Likely just another car nap tomorrow as we are going to my parents which is about an hour long drive and we'd like to be there by 3pm or so...
