Thanks.  I don't like setting rules about things that are her own ability to soothe herself, but I am not saying she can't have it, only where :-\ . Lately (especially late afternoon on no nap days) she won't give it up, wont' take it out to talk to me...and that is sooo annoying! But is also an indication that she isn't as comfortable on no nap as she thinks she is....

I think it's a very fair expectation for her, considering her age. I think it should work well once she gets used to it.

Rina that sounds like a great plan for the dummy and naps and bedtime. It will make it so much easier for you with DH helping out and you getting out for a walk nice and relaxing.

I am trying to reinstate Riley's nap now that the bright evenings are here. It is terrible having to come inside so early to be in bed asleep by 7pm, which he needs if he has no nap.

With dinner, tending to Kate etc., even if we skip bath, we are inside from 5pm onwards, which is no fun for anyone. And I feel like I am just gulping down food for the sake of it and on overdrive until he is down.

LOL Stacy.

So far so good here, she went back to sleep in order to keep her dummy, ended up having a nearly 2 hour nap - means a late bedtime, but we are prepared for that.

When she got up she came out with her dummy, and we talked about how it has to go to bed.  She was about to throw a major hissy fit when hugh for once had good timing and woke up, so she put the dummy to bed and got hugh up ;)

Michelle - I was thinking about your post above while I was out walking with the kids this afternoon - and I am soooo glad to hear that you take so long to get the kids fed, bathed and off to bed, cause it takes me that long too, and I could never work out why, when I am sooo organised ;D

Rina, I did that with ds#1 at some stage when he wanted it all the time, we limited it to bedroom. I haven't got to the stage with ds#2 "OO" bears but he does have them around the house (sucks on the arms of them) but not to the same extent as ds#1 with a Dummy.
Stacy, ds#2 has 8 "OO" bears but only 2 are ever accessable (they get washed after 24hours or less, so rotated) & now he has got used to that, although at one stage a while ago he found 5 & had them all, but these days if he finds yesterdays ones & he has 2 he will work out which 2 he wants & puts the other 2 in the washing hamper. He definitely wants them when he is OT/upset (although not at childcare, where he won't take them with him)

BTW "OO" bears came about because I used to tell him I'd get him "new" bears at bedtime, so he started asking for "OO" bears & now he asks for "clean OO bears" so OO bears have stuck as their name. They are the brown bears you can get in Ikea, so it really didn't cost much to get 8!... He started sucking on one when he first rolled over & it was on his play mat it replaced a dummy when he was 6mo as a prefered sucking item.

LOL Kate!

Zara still has access to her lovie, Frankie (we have 3).  She can access them all, but is usually satisfied with 1.  If she can't find even 1, she will almost as happily steal Hughs lovie which is almost the same, but hers is a green frog blankie, and hughs is a yellow duck blankie....

We had a major suprise today - Zara went to sleep at about 7:40 with no fuss ;D

I think that's a good idea with the pacifier and only in bed Rina, good luck! And i totally know what you mean about pushing for naps and accepting late bedtimes - DH and I have felt that way lately too. DD is all or nothing with that. She either doesn't nap (like yesterday) or does nap and sleeps SO hard and is hard to wake up. But then after a good nap and a bit of time to get to herself she's in a better mood and dinner/bedtime isn't so rushed. Saying that though, she did well yesterday - after sleeping 11.5 hours until 8:30 yesterday and then refusing her nap she was asleep by 8:30pm, no night terror (which often happen after no nap), slept until 6:50 this morning, cried for 5 seconds and back to sleep until 7:40. Will try nap around 1:15 today and see what happens.

LOL Stacy about the dirties - let us know how it goes! Funny with that too - DD used to carry blanket and teddy everywhere but she seems to be self limiting them - mostly just in her crib, sometimes when she watches TV and sometimes in car or stroller (but only when tired or upset). She also got rid of her own thumb sucking a few months ago. After being a RABID thumb sucker, during her last sore throat sickness she stopped and never started again (so she thinks). If you ask her if she sucks her thumb she says no and that only babies do. And I've not seen her consciously suck it since then. But when I need to wake her from a nap or something I do see it slide back in there so she can try not to wake up  :P

Also, very cute Kate with the OOO bears. And to anyone I missed (have to run DD is yelling for the potty), have a good nap (or no nap) day!

Let us know how it goes Stacy!

DD slept a little over 11 hours last night, waking at about 7:40 today. Tried for a nap at about 1:15 but it was a no go and by 2:30 she was up and now is playing and having a snack. will try for 7:45/8pm bedtime tonight and see what happens. When I finally got her up she told me she was all done with her nap and that it was a nice one.  :-\

LOL Karen, Zara always tells me in the morning and after nap that she is "finished".

She woke early this morning (often happens if she naps) and told me she was finished.  I told her she can get up if she wants to, but dummy stays in bed, and that if she wants dummy, she has to stay in bed too.  She did, and eventually went back to sleep, and is still there now at 6:45 which is almost unheard of in this house! I have no idea what this will do to the prospect of napping today, but am willing to go with the flow.
