After that bad night, Zara had two naps today because we drove somewhere far and she napped for 1/2 hr there, and an hour home.

Will be a late bedtime tonight, but that is OK too, we have a guest coming for dinner.

Still, a routine would be nice ;)

Routine LOL - I miss those days! DD woke today at 7:30 so instead of trying for nap 12:45/1 I'll try 1:15 and see what happens and then maybe cut nap to 1.25 tops... Wish us luck. ::)

We're 10.5 nights and 1.5 naps pretty much here.  Ideally I would like 11 hour nights and 1 hr nap.
I hope to have this for summertime.... ::)

Thanks Rina! So Aisling - if you cut Nello's nap down does he add onto his nights after a bit?

Karen, a bit inconsistent, one night he did and another he didn't but then again that was a late night out at friends which messed everything up...so just going with it right now. I do prefer 7:30 wake ups to 7am, but the closer he goes past 7:30, the later he wants to nap, so then for sure I would cut it to an hour and see what happens. Today he woke at 7:15, so no doubt will fall asleep by 1pm. I just hate waking him!!!!!

I totally understand - I hate waking DD too (when she does nap) as it's SO hard to wake her and then she's so cranky. But if I don't she'd sleep 2-3 hours and then be up well past 10pm! Ideal for us today would be nap from 1:15-2:30 and then bedtime between 8:15-8:30...

We can all dream, right? DD woke at 7:30 today so I think I'll try lunch at 12:45 and then potty and into crib by 1:15 or little sooner. And pray. Actually, I think my super ideal routine would be 8:15-7:15 and nap from 1-2 since that would be great with her camp/school routine starting in July but that's too far away to really think about!

I was just wondering how your lo's cope with later bedtimes on nap days, or with more flexible routines generally. I find that a later bedtime (i.e. is asleep at about 8 after a 1.5 hr nap) results in NWs and early mornings. On short nap days he gets to bed earlier (6:30) and sleeps slightly later - although these days later seems to be 5:30. I am so envious of you discussing 7:00 versus 7:30 wake-ups!  ;) I can't remember the last time we had one past 6:00! I would love to have a later bedtime during the summer (or now for that matter) but we just get stuck in the overtired spiral whenever it happens on its own.

Becky, that is how it is for us.....every time we have ever had a bit of a sleep in--lets say a solid 11hr night and he woke at 6:30 for example,  he would nap later and fall asleep later---but lo and behold be up early etc.
he doesn't do well going to sleep past 7:30 pm.

today is another mess, because after asleep last night at 6:30, he was awake from 3:30-5am, and then we all slept til 7. so he probably did sleep 11hrs last night.
hmm considering shortening the nap to 1hr today  and aiming for a 11hr night tonight, maybe 7/7:15-6/6:15

ok so how much A time can these LOs handle if you wake them after 1hr???, we are usually at 6hrs before nap and alseep by 5.5hrs after after a 1.5hr nap or so.

My Dd is older Deborah but can currently easily do 5.5-6 hours after a one hour nap. Maybe at Noah's age, if you are doing a one hour nap, aim for bedtime 5 hours later. So maybe nap from 1-2 and into bed/crib at 7? But what is his current nap? Have you tried limiting to 1.5 hours or even 1.25 hours for a solid week first?

Well thank goodness - put DD in her crib about 5-10 minutes after 1 and she was asleep between 1:20 and 1:25. Think will wake her at 2:45 and try for 8:30 bedtime. Hope she's not too hard to wake and cranky after - have a lot of errands to run this afternoon... hope you all are having good nap (or no nap) days!

So, after waking at 4:30, then back to sleep until 5:20 (after falling asleep at 7:25 last night) Aiden took a whole 30 minute nap today. Will try for 6:00 bedtime but that is often hard to manage. Plus i really fear that we will be perpetuating the early mornings with early night. But then again falling asleep when overtired or late nights also seem to produce early mornings  ::). Maybe the only solution is for them to grow up!
