Yes, we've played with A times.
Ever since he went to 1 nap, we've had to limit his night sleep to 11 hours--more than that and no nap. For the past few months we've had naps on and off in 3-5 day stretches. During this time, even on no nap days, we kept night sleep to about 11 hours as letting him make up sleep at night set him up for no nap again the next day. He handled this fine--mood generally good even on no nap days.
Two weeks ago he was in a no nap stretch and discovered how to get out of the crib w/o hurting himself. Since then, we've only had a few naps and those were on days that he was sick and takining cough syrup.
Feeling like the nap is a bit of a lost cause now that he can get out of the crib, I've been trying to lengthen his night, which then sets him up not to nap.
What we haven't tried is intentionally limiting his night to 10-10.5 hours to see if that would get him napping again. We did that when he was 8-12 months old in order to get him taking 2 naps--which he needed to be in a good mood. His natural thing though would have been to sleep 11-12 hours at night and only nap once, but then be crabby a lot.
