It is so hard to break the short night cycle!

Zara napped somewhere around 45-60 mins (def no more than 60). In bed now at 7:30 and really fighting it! Napping does our  bedtimes no good.

Rina - I can't even imagine doing that - so huge hugs to you. What if you cut her nap to only 30 minutes? Is that enough to get her through day but still go to bed reasonably well?

As for here, I let DD take a full two hour nap yesterday since she'd had a bad night the night before and wasn't feeling 100%. She was in a really good mood all afternoon after that and went to sleep pretty easily about 8:30. Not surprisingly she was up by 6:30 (instead of her usual 7-7:30) but that's ok. will cut her nap (if she deigns to take one) back to 1.5 tops today (preferably 1.25) and take it from there.

Karen, I let DS take a 2 hour too, asleep by 8:30 up at 6:30.   We have a busy morning, DH out of town, so I know I will let him nap long again today as I will be joining him lol!   ::)

I know I'm tempted to let DD take 2 hours again too but won't because really don't want to be up early tomorrow! It's just so nice when she wakes happy and not cranky post-nap but don't want to pay for it tonight or tomorrow morning. Sigh.

DS (26 months) hasn't napped for 5 days.  We've had some craziness with his bed situation, but we're back to the crib now.  Last night he got 12 hours, the previous nights he got 11-11.5.  However, he is SO crabby.  Everything is a battle, anything that doesn't go his way is the end of the world.  The crabbiness is happening early in the day, so I can't figure out if it's accumulated OT?  Or if he's just being a two year old?  kwim?

Bethny we have the same thing here.
Noah is stll napping--usually 1.5hrs--nights have been about 11hrs or so, but like last night he only slept 10 (I heard him at 5:30---but then I dozed off again and woke at 7 and he was still happily talking in his crib).

but my good ness, since he has turned 2---he is easily frustrated! sometimes I have to step in if I know a certain toy is going to make him mad, just to sort of keep the situation calm--otherwise he gets mads and then somehow inadvertantly hurts himself!

we do change scenery alot--upstairs, downstairs, movie, outside etc---its keeps things happier.

Bethany - that does sound like OT accentuating normal 2 yo stuff. Will he not nap at all? Have you tried playing with A times, etc?

Yes, we've played with A times.

Ever since he went to 1 nap, we've had to limit his night sleep to 11 hours--more than that and no nap.   For the past few months we've had naps on and off in 3-5 day stretches.  During this time, even on no nap days, we kept night sleep to about 11 hours as letting him make up sleep at night set him up for no nap again the next day.  He handled this fine--mood generally good even on no nap days.

Two weeks ago he was in a no nap stretch and discovered how to get out of the crib w/o hurting himself.  Since then, we've only had a few naps and those were on days that he was sick and takining cough syrup.

Feeling like the nap is a bit of a lost cause now that he can get out of the crib, I've been trying to lengthen his night, which then sets him up not to nap.

What we haven't tried is intentionally limiting his night to 10-10.5 hours to see if that would get him napping again.   We did that when he was 8-12 months old in order to get him taking 2 naps--which he needed to be in a good mood.  His natural thing though would have been to sleep 11-12 hours at night and only nap once, but then be crabby a lot.

That sounds great Stacy!  I would need a nap myself to go out at night LOL!

Stacy - sounds wonderful! What is the big occasion???

I can't wake Zara because she is way too cranky, which right now I just can't deal with since with hughs reflux he spends most of the day in my arms anyway, I couldn't possibly handle two cranky crying babies.

So, last night asleep about 7:45 and woke at 5:15 - all from a 45-60 min nap!  I managed to keep her laying quietly for about 1 hr 20 before we got up, so hoping that quiet time will help her do no nap today!

Especially since DH won't be home to help again today with the bedtime process, the last thing I need right now if a fight from Zara, since Hugh is doing that the last few nights anyway :P

Sounds great Stacy - have a GREAT time! And I agree - don't let him nap or if he seems to really need one maybe half hour only? I often do that if MIL/FIL are watching or BIL coming to hang out after she goes to bed.

Bethany - that's hard. Normally I'd never want to wake LOs in the morning unless we have to be somewhere important but given his young age and that he seems to need the nap, maybe try waking him after 10.5 hours and shooting for a nap? Or will he get a catnap in the car or stroller?

Rina - hang in there - hope tonight today goes well. Is Hugh being treated for his reflux?

Just popping in to say hi  ;)
It is good to know that Catherine isn't the only one going through crazy times with sleep. She is still napping i am holding onto it but not letting her go past 1.5hrs she usually wakes from this on her own but isn't falling asleep till 8.45/9am and up for the morning 7.15/7.30am.
Karen have you made the move to the big bed yet?

Natasha - 8:45/9-7:15/7:30 sounds GREAT to me!

Limited DD to 1.5 hour nap today and hoping for 8:15/8:30 bedtime - we'll see what happens.

No BGB yet. She's doing so well in the crib still and would rather wait then until she's better with the stairs (since she hates baby gates and is one floor up from us in the new house). But we plan to start looking soon!
