Good advice thank you everyone, I really do need to relax with it all. My parents look after him one day a week for us and Im always stressing that they aren't doing things 'by the book' but you know what? Most of the time the way they do things gives better results! Ive shifted many of my views after seeing how he behaves after being with them.

With the moving into his own room thing, well we never had that as I put him in his own cot in hos own room from day one. (much to MIL annoyance, made me a wicked cruel mother apparently). I used monitors for about 3 days then all the little noises drove me nuts! i kept getting up for everything!
when we went to stay with family when he was a few weeks old and he was in our room it drove me mental because i could hear everything!
I am a great beliver in the mummy instinct. I could always hear him wake, and would often wake up before he did! very weird. even know i hear him in the night if he wakes, which is harldy ever but if he is sick or had a bad dream etc. dh hears nothing, he is away with the fairies!

i could've written this post!! everything you wrote here... its so strange how we wake up right before they do, i always wondered "am in the only one that does this?"

oh for sure, i still wake up around 4 which was his habitual waking time & then i drift in & out of sleep, just waiting for him to wake up but he doesn't. i swear we spend months wishing they'd sleep so we could too, then when they do, we still can't. it doesn't seem quite fair
