bumpy bits on breast
« on: February 19, 2008, 16:11:24 pm »
Hi ladies,

After feeding Callie I have just noticed some lumpy/bumpy bits on my right breast.  The best way I can describe it is like a 'spine' running from around underarm level to nipple area, with several bumpy areas.  Seems to follow a definite 'line' rather than being random.  Does that make sense?  It feels a bit tender to touch but otherwise fine.  I feel fine.  No engorgement although I was slightly engorged yesterday morning after Callie slept 7-7.  Any ideas?  I've never had any issues like this before so have no idea.

Just had a glance at the plugged ducts FAQ's ... off to have a proper read.

Thanks  :-*

I think it does sound very much like a plugged duct - quite unusual to have it as you describe but honestly can't imagine what else it might be. Sounds like you've caught it early enough that you should be able to self-treat - hot compresses/ massage/ draining breast/ more massage. I think for what you've described the comb trick should be especially helpful - comb from your underarm in gentle sweeps towards the nipple. Visualise yourself pushing the milk down towards the nipple. Do this with the breast actually submerged in a hot basin if you can.
On the nipple any blisters/ white blisters i.e. blebs?

Thanks Emma  :-*

Nothing bleb like in sight, first thing I looked for after recalling your bleb discussions  ;)

After I posted, I expressed, fed and now Callie has just fed again.  Everything feels much softer and the bumps are only slightly obvious to me now.  Weird  :-\

I will def do as you suggested  :-* Thank you xx

Sounds like you'll be fine. Breasts ARE weird - but quite handy ;)
